The Mustard Seed of Fort Pierce does it again! I found this model 1453 with electric hose, telescoping wand, and power head without a price. I took it to the counter and told the woman it was not marked. "$25.00" she says. "Sold!" She said "There is an Electrolux dealer down the road." I said "They don't have anything this old do they?" "Yes they do." Then she said "This thing will probably run like an iron horse." I said I am in a collector club. "What do they do, buy, sell?" "Yes, and tell vacuum stories. It's on the internet." Hmmm... Got home fast as I could and tried it out, without the head. Runs like a champ, but the damn plastic hand grip split. I have never seen such a new bottom line model before. Is this a prize or a clinker? It is mostly metal.

Hi Arh,

I have one too, only it is in silver. Exactly like that called the Silverado Special. From what I learned about it, it was a pared down model from the main Silverado. Yours looks to be a scaled down version of the Olympia. I believe the motors are the same as the higher end models. Oh, and I thought the handle on mine was broken, but it is supposed to be like that, it is just to open the blower door.

Thanks, Electrogirl, that tells me a lot. My problem is here. I looked at it in the store, and it wasn't cracked. How maddening! I have a feeling it wouldn't be a cheap fix.

I'd try fixing it first with a toothpick and some Crazy Glue. The toothpick or something even thinner to make sure the glue gets down in that crack.

Broken Handle

Pete is right, I think that would be the best possible fix, although I am no expert. If that doesn't work...there's always duct tape!

When you said the handle was broken, I thought you meant that little stub of a handle on the blower door. I really thought that was broken when I got my SS, but after doing some research online, it appears that was another thing E-Lux just scaled back on.

Thanks Pete, as soon as the roommate gets home, I'll ask her where her glue is and give it a shot. I thought that was what you were talking about too, Electrogirl. I haven't opened mine up yet, I'm afraid to.

She used to live next door, she has actually known me since September of '04, and she is used to all my peculiarities. She had to clear my living areas of the house before I came home from hospital/rehab from a car accident in June '06. She is the one that told me about Kyle in Michigan on Megan Mulally.

The handle part is easy to replace if you can find a leaky hose with a good handle. Mark

Thanks, Mark. I'll check with the two last vacuum dealers in my county to see what they can do if I can't fix it.

I just aquired one of those a month or so ago from someone who contacted Fred N thru this site. This was the cheaper alternative to the Olympia One, mine is vintage 1980 and came with the manuals too.
The only difference I see between yours and mine is you have the cord wrap halo.
The motors are not quite the same, the special uses the old model L motor, not quite as powerful
Nice lightweight machine though!

Bah with a crack that small you can just whack some super glue in there and it'll be solid as a rock, Alan.

The handle on my hose split in almost the same place just from dropping it by accident on the carpeting. I tried user crazy glue as well as a few other types but it just would not hold.

This thing is the bottom line model, apparently. I was so surprised to find it, I mostly have seen those loaded up bluish turquoise ones with the creme trim. This would be a great only cleaner.

Arh1953, PLEASE put that Electrolux or the Roll-Easy to work, will ya? With that many vacuums, there's no reason to have a dirty rug! I could have a field day with my DC21 there, and would probably have to empty it about 20 times or more. GROSS!!!

Bob's comment on AW.org about the nicotine-laden "antiqued green" stereo doesn't surprise me either. That poor vintage Magnavox...no way to treat a Maggie!!!!!

OHMIGAWD!!! We do have the same carpet! I always refer to it as dried ketchup color but at least its more tolerable than the fried egg yellow version that carpeted the kitchen & bathroom wall to wall...yes, the entire kitchen floor...when I bought the house 21 years ago. First things to go...

and oh yeah, Alan, I successfully got the woven gray hose off the GE Roll-Easy ends and now mine has a truly vibrant turquoise hose!!! Posting pictures over the weekend...
