So i have a 1952 (or 53) Electrolux Lx (Metropolitan ReBuild), and i was wondering if this is the spot for the basement-and-attic key. This has no dirt selector, and i think this might be the basement and attic key model. Could somebody enlighten me on this?
That model would have originally had the basement and attic key to prevent the automatic control from ejecting the bag before it was filled. Metropolitan commonly disabled the automatic feature, since they were selling the cleaner with single-ply bags that clogged almost immediately.
The key wasnt in there. If the ejection was disabled, would the 'release switch' for it sill work? that switch still works on mine. I run generic 4 ply bags in it, and the one in it is about half full.
As you are looking at the LX from the front the key would clamp on the lever that is underneath the left side. That lever will release the ejector mechanism.
The lever that sticks out the slot in the front will only open the front door to replace the bag.
