Don't let it get away, Guy!

Typing this on the ipod Touch. Too diffiucult to do a Craigslist search from here. If you're not interested yourself please email me the link.

We won't know eactly what model it is, or if it is a re-paint or original UNTIL YOU GET YOUR HANDS AND EYES on it, Guy. If it is a re-paint it is certainly well done and the newer hose & white pigtail really set it off.

I would be more than exstatic to take it off your hands. :-)

Dave, salivating...

That looks like a repainted model 89, according to the switch and handle. Then again it could be a repainted model 88 with an 89 switch and handle. Oddly enough I repainted one of mine in the same color, but the results were much less than stellar.

I was just zooming in on that picture (pity it isn't bigger/clearer) and there's something a bit odd about that front cover; almost like its "homemade" or something.

Bubble has burst.

An Apple Touch screen is good but not as clear as a big monitor. Now I'm at home I found the Craigslist ad. This is as clear as the picture gets.

The more I stare at it the less enthusiastic I become. I agree the handle and switch are green from an 87/89 and there is something odd stuck in the inlet as an adapter for the generic electric hose. Possibly we are seeing the 89 electric hose end cap that fits over the bumper to keep the pigtail from twisting, with the hose cut off and the bojac one jammed in the stub.

The 89 rubber trim is such a pale green it is almost white. I do see a full wrap-around rubber bumper strip. The ad picture is so lousy...

The look of it initially made me dream it was a special Canadian version of the Hospital G, but alas I have to conclude it is a re-paint. I do like the look of the colour scheme but I could do a better job myself by repainting a pn socketed white-handled 88 (if I had a spare). :-)

The seller doesn't even suggest a price so I won't bother contacting them. Now, if it was free for pick-up...mmm

A heretofore unknown-to-exist original White 89 would have been quite a find, eh?

Dave, disappointed, dejected but no longer distressed & distraught. :-)

The vacuum in

the ad says it's free. I have e-mailed the person yesterday, but not heard back. Dave please feel free to e-mail them and get it if you want it! I'll let you know if they get back to me.

Another rare Canadian Electrolux from a magical land far awa

...not.

When I saw the first picture, I could have sworn that someone ripped off my 89. However, its nothing but a coincidence. The first 89 I got (I have 2) was somewhat rusty, and the paint was a bit flaky, so I said, what the hell, I'll have a go at repainting it. I consoled myself with the thought that it didn't look the best to begin with, so I couldn't totally destroy it.

This is very much a "work-in-progress". I intended to prime it with pastel green, and then put on another coat of "shutter" green, but between the jigs and the reels, it got left undone, and here it is now, bumper-less and with a badly applied coat of pastel green paint, which is actually very close to the lime green accent colors in the original.

Apologies for the desecration, vacuum lovers

The proof is in the pudding...or paint

If memory serves, I hadn't actually touched this vacuum for more than half a year, not even to run it. I figured when Guy posted the "albino" 89 picture, I'd bust mine out for show and tell and to run it. God bless its heart, it started right up, without complaint, and ran smooth, strong, and oh so deliciously quiet. I'm going to slap the bumper strips back on and use it for a while for daily cleaning.

This must be one of the last 89's made because the serial number is stamped on the motor "grill" and its designated as "Elux 89E"

No apologies necessary, Bob; It's a diamond in the rough and I like the pale color. But do remove the paint from the top aluminum strip, give it a buffing.

Guy, if there was a ghost of a chance the 89 that started this thread was factory cream/white I'd email the feller but I see no hint of side lettering...so it must be a spray paint job.

I haven't been into Toronto in at least 10 years and a two hour drive down the 401 to get there with the traffic congestion and parking problems at Spadina $ Bloor on a weekend doesn't thrill, either. And yet I have no problem zipping down the 403 to the Hamilton area to get to IKEA or pick up a Kijiji vacuum as I have done in the past - go figure. LOL

The look of it with a white hose and all does give me ideas of what I could do with a spare to create my own CanLux 'Hospital' 89, perhaps a future project that would contain a 4 or 6 fan setup for a true sleeper 'suck-the-nails-outa-the-hardwood' Monstervac.
