Electrolux Guardian Encore C134C

Long time reader, first time posting!!

I have picked up the Guardian Encore C134C and paid a double digit price for it. After doing much reading, I made sure the controls on the hose end had switches and not electronic buttons. It does need a front wheel which I can find online however for the HEPA filter on the top, I see a similar model that has a removable cover!!!

I would like to run without the HEPA filter and use a proper cover over the exhaust hole .

I will be restoring this one to keep, so eventually it will look better than it does now. The photo is taken of when I brought it home. Hmm... Decals on the sides will be required too as they are missing!!

The two models before the guardian was introduced both had covers over the hepa filter hole, the renaissance and the 8000, the exhaust instead came out underneath the tools with an electrostatic style filter that went underneath the tool caddy. I'm unsure if the guardians have the same exhaust "re-director" that these models would have had. Below you can see part of this assembly below the cover of an 8000 when you inserted the hose it pushed this assembly down to close off a flap that would allow the exhaust to flow to the tool compartment and force it through this hole instead. As far as I know the guardian line didn't have this assembly, or at least my 9000 didn't seem to. I'd imagine they may have closed off the path to the tool compartment to force air through the filter. So using a cover on a guardian may not be possible at least without getting this air director, or whatever you would call it, assembly.


This is speculation though as i never did open up my 9000 which also used the hepa filter. I'm sure someone more versed in lux can provide a definite answer though!

I have taken a look at mine and removed the interior tool tray to discover the vents below. When placing my hand on the exhaust with the hose connector, it does not feel like anything coming through the tool tray. I have yet to take it apart and really see what is going on.

Absolutely thrilled with the power of this motor over the Golden J and the Ambassador. Is it the brushless motor I would think?

I'd assume then it doesn't have the part needed to divert the air to the tool compartment. If that is the case you wouldn't be able to just use one of the earlier model covers.

As for the motor, no, they wouldn't be brushless.

It has been a little hard to research with all of the variants that came out. I thought I read about a brushless motor in one of the models and though it was in the Guardian Encore. However, would it be a proper Electrolux motor or Eureka motor..?

There was never a brushless motor in any of the guardian models. They used to sell years back a smaller after filter that would snap into place where the larger filter would go. It wasn't as high as the regular filter and basically just had the electrostatic filter inside of it and made the machine quiter. People would buy that instead of the big one if they didn't want to spend the money for the Hepa one. If you are going to put a Hepa filterbon it I would recommend getting the genuine one as the aftermarket filters are cheap and usually the ears to locknut onto the machine break off quick. Most the parts are still available just in black vers blue and white. It's a great model with lots of power. The cord rewinder is the only part I think that is getting hard to source. It may have even been discontinued.

Thank you for this information! I have just been occupied lately and have taken apart another model Electrolux Golden Jubilee... I should make a seperate thread for that one.

I prefer genuine parts first of course. The Guardian sure has a lot of power compared to the Golden J. The cord winder is working flawlessly. I do need a front wheel and a replacement floor/carpet tool due to damage and a missing front brush.

I'll have back at it once this Golden J is off the bench.
