My favorite vacuum I have wanted for a very long time finally shows its timid little face on craigs list. I found it on there for 25 bucks and thought what a steal and had to have it. Turns out it was actually right down the street.

Now here is why I think it went for so cheap.

A the PN motor overload switch was tripped.
B the bag had most of deerfield beach in it. I mean literally I had to pry it out and vacuum out the inside before I even used it.
Tell me what you think for 25 bucks.

Woa... you got an AWESOME DEAL! I never see stuff like that in CL... I'm sooo jealous! And I check Orlando AND South Florida AND Tampa. I've been looking for a Discovery upright for a friend who really wants one for a housekeeping business. About a year ago, I saw one in the Good Will for 15 bucks... I could just kick myself for not buying it (I was saving for a newer car at the time).

Looks to be in great shape, and with all those accessories... WONDERFUL FIND :o) Enjoy it!

I am jealous! I have wanted one of these too. What a deal!
I see you got the electric hose the the side kick. I have
an older org. Discovery, with the side kick. I really liked
in when I had my house with carpeted steps. But just so low
suction/air flow on the hose end! I ck'd and tried everything!
Please tell me that it has "very good suction" like a lux
tank! I really don't want to bother if it's not really good suction.
I keep trying to convience my self that it is just my machine
that has the problem. Even though I have heard that the newer
uprights are not "great". They are good carpet and barefloor cleaners.

It has amazing suction just like a tank. I have fallen in love with it. I need to get a bulb for the headlight and I would just be enamered. I cannot tell you what a pleasure it is using it. I am so happy to have found it with such a good price.

My feelings are that the person just did not want to deal with it with a completely full bag. And most people do not know about the reset switch my grandmothers elux 1205 has never has the pn used I cant wait to inherit it. I keep trying to find nice light ones to replace it but she refuses to let it go.

The hose is new all the tools it is just a dream. I finally have this machine. I have a list of 10 machines.. well 9 now that will be the pennacle of my collection.

Again congratulations and thanks for the update on the suction.I am pleased to know that it dose have good suction.
I will be looking for one my self now.
Any one have one they don't want?
Buffalo Joe, are you hiding any multiples in your barn ?
Enjoy

Epic 3500

I have had the Discovery II, grey Epic 3500 just like filterqueen83, and the Lux 3000. The 3000 had the best suction of the three. It did feel a little less substantial than the previous machines but it cleaned much better. I believe that the motor was changed to a larger size on the 3000 and later models, along with a better designed, more effective, brush roll. The Discovery II is one of those vac that I associate with my childhood and I love it. These machines are very well designed, clean well enough for most people, and are soo easy to use. They will also last for a very long time if cared for properly. Plus, their bag design is just like a Lux tank and extremely easy to change. I think they are simple looking yet elegant and the ability to use the electric sidekick is awesome!

The Epic 3500 is a fantastic machine. Those uprights clean up really well, even if they are a mess when you get them. That generation of Luxes use inexpensive after-filters that catch the motor dust but don't cost much. Yours has one installed; I can see it on the frontal photo. It's probably dirty but can be replaced. You'll see two tabs on the top that, when pulled, release the front plate that contains the filter. That is disposable, and the new one snaps on. Don't try to pull the other part off. It's glued to the machine. Replacing that filter might improve the airflow, too. I always thought the Epic uprights could benefit from more suction, but I think they clean really well as long as the bag isn't too full. Also, aside from being too top-heavy, the attachment configuration is the best of any upright because it allows you to use the electric Sidekick. Simplicity/Riccar has a really good extension hose, but it's straight suction. On the Epic, you can buy an Electrolux floor brush and use it like a canister on wood floors or the ceramic tile in your photos - it already has both extension wands. You're going to love this machine! Congratulations!

thanks

It has become my daily driver I try to rotate but I do not have a lot of carpet as you can see and I am a big fan of anything with a PN. It has been a dream machine of mine for a long time and I just love it.

thanks for the input on the model progression of the Lux upright. One day I too will have a 3000. Now that I am
assured they have the suction power one would expect!
