Electrolux E2000

I got this nice Electrolux E2000 this morning at the thrift store. It was pretty smudgy and had the required paint drips etc so after about an hour of magic erasering etc it came out not too bad after all. The only problem is that darned power grip handle cutting out again where the swivel handgrip connects to the hose. I'll need Davey to help me fix that. The other thing of note is that it is not near as quiet at the AP series or the even quieter old Elux O Matics. Wonder what happened in the hush department?

Seeing as I had nothing else to do on this sunny warm day I decided to take the handgrip switch apart and fix it and I did. Only took clumsy me about 10 minutes and now it works like it's supposed to.

Pete,

According to Lux schematics, the E2000 has the same fan units as the AP series, but a different armature. Can't remember if it uses the same brushes or not. Haven't really played with or tested an E2000 to see how it compares with an AP in regards to lift and CFM.

Do you know what year this is from? I have no idea. I'm hoping next time I go in they'll have the tool caddy and attachments which weren't there today.. at least the elderly woman working the register had no clue.

I think the E2000 was sold around 1982-1984. Could be out a year or so.

Just wondering if the different armature could be the cause of the "extra noise".

If you split it open, I believe it has the provisions for also mounting the shorter (length), wider diameter motor.

Way to go, Pete!!!

It puzzles me why the trigger grip met with such disfavour. We're finding enough of these grips around that still work that it couldn't have been that badly engineered. Sure, it takes getting used to but I think it really indicates that most folks are used to holding the hose in a different position. Maybe? Or they squeezed the switch so hard it broke. All it takes is a finger's light pressure on the mircroswitch tab.

Me, I just spent the past two days frolicking in the boat and starting a tan. Managed to get some vacuuming in, too, with the 12V mini carvac. LOL

Btw Dave their were some Sturdys living on Wellington St back in the 70's. I was in the library and checked the old phone book

Unless there are other Sturdys listed at that time in that older neighborhood, that's them. Uncle Bud & Aunt Jessie. Next time I'm in Sarnia I'll head over to Wellington Street - it does ring a bell.
