Electrolux Diplomat 1677 Low Suction

Hi Everyone,
I have an Electrolux Diplomat Canister Vacuum Model 1677 Suction at the floor head maybe called the power head is low but the brush spins well. When I detach at the hose suction seems strong.

Any ideas?

Is there a disassembly manual someone can refer me to?

So  suction at hose is good but not wand or tool  . 


Did you check your wand connection is  in all the way ? Is  your  floor  tool o r pn  clog?

Can you shine a flashlight through the PN elbow? If not you probably have a clog.
Take something long and dull and push it through the opening and see if anything comes out. Does the wand end have good suction as well? Electrolux PN's are super easy to take apart, just a few screws and you're done. Just take pictures of each step along the way and you should be fine. If nothing returns as being wrong, you may have bad seals. Not really enough information there to tell you what's wrong.

First, Electrolux USA's household elongated cleaners are 'tanks' (or 'cylinders' overseas), because their motors are mounted sideways. canister-type cleaners' motors are mounted horizontally. This is how the industry differentiated them originally; but over time that distinction has diminished.

Secondly, I think the model name of your cleaner may be 'Diplomat LX' due to the 1677 model number. The 'LX' stands for 'Lux', a term meaning illumination. If you have the model 1692 lighted pn, then look on the name label for a coronet with 'LX' after 'Diplomat'. The earlier model had the unlit pn model 1751. Both tanks may have been 1677s, but I thought the Diplomats were marked as 2100.

To answer your question about disassembly, the power nozzle can be removed from the wand by depressing either the spring-loaded button or tab (depending on the model number) and pulling and slightly twisting it off. The wand is in two sections and can be separated in similar fashion.

I have a Diplomat LX, model 1677 that came with the lighted power nozzle. I'm not at all an authority on the Canadian style plastic canisters but I think the 2100 is essentially the same machine. It's a beast.

The power nozzles like to clog at the elbow and the lower handle, check there. I may be mis-remembering but I seem to remember there was an access hatch you could unscrew to get inside the elbow?
