I have just realised that I know what that metal piece is!
It is a guard to stop the belt from rubbing against plastic at the point where it wraps around the brush roll.
I shall post a picture of where it is fitted on my Contour later.

I am extremely Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I was extremely desperate as couldn't find anything else so, here goes....
does anyone know where that 'metal bit' actually goes on the contour? and if so could you upload a picture?
I know this thread is three years old but I need to know where this 'metal bit' goes!!!

Sorry, the electrolux is not with me at the moment so cannot take a photo but will I will use beko 1987's photo as an example. One one of your previous posts you said that it is located near where the belt wraps around the brushroll?
