Does it have the 1205 style motor or the Super J motor? You can tell by the power nozzle outlet on the outside of the vacuum If the female receptacle is black and has a standard female receptacle it is the smaller 1205 motor, if it is grey and has 3 female pins in the receptacle it has the larger Super J motor. I have both sets of you need them.

it is kind of a two-tone blue/ chrome drum. It has what looks like a standard wall outlet as a powernozzle port (just in black)

Ok, that is the earlier style with the 1205 motor, actually it is a Model L motor in there. Have you checked the carbon brushes, are they definitely worn or did the inner part of the brush holders slide into the commutator on the armature causing the brushes not to hit the commutator? Very easy machine to work on, if you need brushes let me know, I'm sure i have some here.

First thing you need to check is the clearance between the brass part of the brush holder if it is flush with the plastic part of the brush holder where the carbon brush is inserted into the holder, I will post pictures on what i am talking about tomorrow. Then get a new set of brushes and then stone the commutator with some seeing chalk. If you need brushes let me know.
