Electrolux Canister (USA) Hoses/Handles

When were the new vinyl hoses (that are currently used) introduced--year and machine? Did the plastic bodied machines that were sold at the same time as the Model 1521s have the same hoses as them, or did they use a different kind? I realize that some, like the Model 2100s, would have had electric hoses and some, like the L-Es, would have had non-electric ones.

Also, when was the gas pump-style hose introduced?

The LE always came with electric hose because the power nozzle was part of the package.

Electrolux hoses

The standard (non electric) braided hose continued in matching colors to the current Elux through at least Olympia,Silverado,DJ and Marquise.They were for replacement on older Elux including the XXX,E,etc and even though the Power Nozzle was standard and packed in box a wood floor or budget minded cutomer could buy new metal body (deluxe or standard Specials) Elux without PN and exchange electric hose for standard.Then as above standard hose was not available on US plastic body Elux.

Kevin, the braided hoses existed side by side with the vinyl hoses for a short time in the late 1980's to early 1990's. I think the last Ultralux in the late 80's used a braided hose. If I am not mistaken, the vinyl hose entered as standard equipment on the Epic 6500SR machines. When the Epics began production they still had the braided hose and half metal/plastic wand set up. One of the differences in the 6500 and 6500SR is that the 6500 had a different mold for the dusting/upholstery tool as it required no adapter due to the pistol grip metal/plastic handle. The 6500SR featured the new all plastic interlocking wands, steerable PN, headlight on PN, and the curved ergonomic handle. I believe the Renaissance, Guardians, etc. all had an adapted version of this curved handle with the controls on it. The "gas pump" handle came with the Guardian Ultra.

So, here is a timeline I have constructed for Electrolux hose styles according to what you have told me and from what I read on Charles Lester's website:

1924 - 1956: Woven cloth
1956 - c. 1991: Woven vinyl (except Model T which was cloth)

1924 - 1972: non-electric hose (standard)
1972 - 1991: non-electric hose (optional)
1972 - present: electric hose (standard)

1992 - present: Coiled vinyl hose

1924 - 1972: "Goose Neck" handle
1972 - 2009: "Pistol Grip" handle (except early version of Model 1205-J)
2009 - present: "Gas Pump" handle


Was this style the second version of the electric hose (the first being the short-lived Model G version), or was it made specifically for the Model Ls and as replacements of earlier models than the Model 1205?

1924 hose was flexible metal.
Blue electric hose above would have had white ends added when sent to factory to be repaired(and shortened)when customer did not want to spend 3 to 4 times more $ for a new hose.(While waiting for repaired hose the customer could use a hose with 'LOANER'stenciled on it.)
First 1205 blue direct connect electric hose handle & telescopic wand proved fragile and troublesome.Then 1205 used hose with curved chrome end for long sheath cord.SJ had improved direct connect electric hose with white ends.

Thanks for the info., Jimmy. Were the flexible metal hoses used just for the Model V, or were they also used for the Model XXII and XXIIA?

Also, to clarify, the hose pictured in reply #5 is not direct connect, right? That would be the kind that had no pigtail at all. Did the heavy-duty uprights all have direct connect hoses, or did they start out with pigtail hoses? Sorry, I'm not up on all the correct terms.

the only direct connect hose for uprights were the 4000 and 6000, all the rest had pigtail or strap on cord. The first series upright had just standard hoses .

To clarify

my statement on the upright hoses. The first uprights prior to the Discovery ll would have standard non electric hoses used because the sidekick was not out then. The first Discovery ll did not have anywhere to hookup for pigtail hose because the sidekick was not out yet. When the sidekick became available, there was a place to hookup, the strap on cord was used on the hose for sidekick use, then came hoses with pigtails, and the 4000 and 6000 with on board attachments. There were two hoses that went on the 4000 and 6000. The regular standard hose with telescoping wand and the electric direct connect hose for sidekick and above floor tools.

Metal hose should have been V only.Could be different elsewhere as Elux was worldwide early on.
Direct connect and pigtail are 2 different things at different ends.Direct connect means inserting the hose in Power Nozzle wand or Sidekick makes suction and electric connection in one step.Pigtail is at machine end for R,L,G,first 1205 and converted AE & AF as well as any Discovery style upright with added or standard Sidekick outlet.

the very first Discovery ll did not have the hookup for sidekick. It came later on.
