My wife got this beautiful 400slc Electrolux Carpet Shampooer for me the other day.
it seems to be a 1985 model,
They were made right here in Cape Town South Africa, at Electrolux's manufacturing plant in Paarden Island.

I am not sure what the tie up was with the various similar machines sold in the USA.
Their are Electrolux and Columbus versions of this machine dating back to the 70's possibly earlier, all made locally, Production ended around 2013/15 when Electrolux finally stopped all manufacturing in SA.
They are very sought after here and newer versions can go for ridiculous amounts second hand. $ 150.00 sometimes.

I was given these brouchures by a friend who was the regional sales manager for Electrolux back in the day,

Their were no differences between the 500 slc and the 600 slc other than colour.

You have a thoughtful wife and a good friend! I like the yellow hood of the 400 SLC. Did it have a twin colored vacuum cleaner when it was marketed?

I'm guessing that SLC stands for Shampoo Lacquer Clean? Anyway, it resembles USA's cleaners such as Kenmore and Regina more than Electrolux. I'm guessing the model designations went from 100 SLC to at least 900 SLC if they were produced more than 20 years.

Consider posting a video of it in action sometime. Congrats.

Hi Paul

I have a funny feeling that Electrocol as it was back in the day bought the rights to manufacture this machine from one of those companies.

the model Designation stopped at the 700 slc before it was given the name Nimbus

The owner of Electrocol  Wally Horn ( Electrolux and Columbus  manufacturers and distributers ) drove a Mercedes 450slc. Staff used to joke here comes Wally in his Shampoer

I will make a video of it working this weekend

Ha ... shampooer car! Thanks, Gareth, for the laugh and back story of Electrocol shampooers - both add to the enjoyment of Vacuumland.

Looking forward to the vid.
