I am looking to rebuild the motor of my 1401 Super J. A little while ago, one of the bearings started making noise. Then, after a loud grinding sound, I can see that the fans have come loose.

Many years ago, I used to work in a vacuum shop rebuilding machines and did a motor or two. but today, I don't see many parts (like fans) offered for the canisters -just complete motor assemblies.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you,
John

I have never worked on a Super J, but I understand that the bearing's holder is riveted, so you will need to drill those out and replace them after lubricating the bearing. I believe there is a bushing at the back of the motor, but I'm not sure it would be the cause of the unusual noise.

You may want to check with a local vacuum cleaner dealer to see what they use for a lubricant. They may also have spare parts available if you need them.
