Electrolux 1205 Motor Help!

Hi everyone! My dear "Luxy" girl is sick! When I run her, not right off the bat, but a few minutes into vacuuming, you can hear her motor slow down, it stays running. Then that's followed by the brushes making a more prominent sound (not a grinding sound). I then touch her metal to check motor temp by the blower port and it starts feeling hotter than I KNOW it should! We have rebuilt her motor twice! Can anybody PLEASE help me figure out what's going on? I did buy another parts vac with a motor. The motor just needs to be cleaned/gone thru, it does work. Also, my "Luxy" is a later modeled 1205, the turquoise with texture paint, incase there's a difference. Thanks! -Michelle

could be a few issues. old bad wiring causing unwarranted resistance, bad or short carbons, dirty commutator, or a dead field coil. the first three id look into first as they are super easy to fix. the last which is what it sounds like, would require a new motor field.

The carbon brushes are sticking in the holders due to dirt and carbon residue build up. Remove the brushes and holders from motor. Remove brushes from holder. Clean the holder inside, with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Take a very fine sand paper, and go over the carbon brush itself, lightly sanding the surface. Brush off the carbon brush with an old toothbrush, then reinsert into clean holder. Use a carbon brush seating stone to seat the brushes and clean the commutator. Diamond D carbon brush seating stones work best. They come in a box of eight stones and are not expensive.

Thank you so much for the info!!! The field coil is what my husband and I were leaning towards. Like I said, we did clean the motor and rebuild it 2 times! The brushes are good and the commutator is clean. So, with all that, I think we will just clean up the extra motor I bought because it's very dirty, but works good. A little TLC and it should be good to go! Thanks again! -Michelle
