Electrolux 1205 issues

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">I have two Electrolux 1205s (one is an eBay find & the other is a curb-side find) & neither of them run.</span>

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">The one on the right (late version) hasn't been working since I got it from eBay</span>

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">What could be the problem with the 1205s?  Should I buy a new motor or have someone rebuild the original motor or is the problem something else?

The Automatic Control light & PN aren't working</span>

I would check the switches and cord winder contacts before you dump the motors.
An easy way to see if they are getting power is to try and run a power nozzle from them.

The big problem...

With some of them, was they used a different connector from the cord winder to the machine, it was supposed to be the best thing ever, but it was a disaster, what they did was mount copper bus bars on the cord winder and machine, when you inserted the cordwinder they brushed together sort of like plugging in a cord, unfortunately, more often than not they would arc and get hot, even to the point of setting the plastic cover over the motor and or the cordwinder on fire, very soon they came up with a repair kit for this, this is one reason 1205s did not have as good a reputatiopn as a G, take the cordwinder out and you will see if thats it, the other thing is the switch from the 1205 on is pitifully inadequate, the e,f,and g, have a big old heavy switch, the later ones are small light switch type things, also an easy fix.

Above is very true.A quick test is-Plug in,turn on(make sure bag is in place),gently kick or bump the left side at rear.If motor starts,even breifly,unplug and check cordwinder contacts.This was discussed before as 'terminal block repair'(or similar).Good luck.These rarely have a bad motor.(But sometimes the carbon brush sleeves will slide into armature.But check CW first.)

The early 1205 works intermittent; I think its the "terminal block" being the culprit.

As for the later 1205, I still don't know what the problem could be, despite giving it a spa treatment & bending the cord reel "terminal block" contacts. Maybe it's the ON/OFF switch?
