My cousin who is getting the Oreck, right now has an Electrolux Upright, Discovery. They need and new cord and handle, could anyone help me out with this? or where I could help them? Also, since I have not played with an upright before, I needed to unplug the hose at the bottom of the machine and I could not get the bottom plate off. I did not want to break it so I am asking how do you do it? Do you just unscrew and lift it off? Was there cord holders on the handle? Please someone advise me...

Thank you,
David

If my memory serves me correctly, by removing the screws from the bottom plate you can simply remove the top power nozzle cover. You should not have to remove the duct hose to get the cover off. Try lifting it from the back section of the cover, near the hose inlet. There were a few different versions of the Discovery, but the earliest Discovery 2 had metal cord wraps on the handle bar. The later models uprights have one plastic swivel clip on top, and a large wrap on the lower plastic section of the body, which ran the width of the machine. The cord and handle should be easy to find, the Discovery was sold for a while, and the same design is still used today. They are decent machines at cleaning and the older discovery models will run for a long time if taken care of. They are a good design in my opinion, but I wish they had more power! The new machines have a stronger motor and I would love to see how they perform now.

Good Luck!

Electrolux upright

David..

I am the service manager at Electrolux in St. Louis. I can order parts for the older Electrolux uprights provided that they aren't discontinued. To get into the bottom of the machine, all you need to do is remove the 5 or 6 screws underneath. After you remove the screws, turn the machine back over and stick a flat headed screwdriver between the top cover and one of the back wheels and gently pry up. This will pop off the cover. If you need anymore help, you can email me.
