Early Hoover photo on eBay

I just saw this photo on eBay, circa 1948. Looks like either a model "O" or the model that followed right after. It would seem as if the lady is trading it in. I shudder to think, even though I'm sure they were much more plentiful then....

I'd say that's a Model 1 Improved...

Cant blame her for trading in her 30 pound vacuum cleaner! lol.

Bet that machines is floating around in someones closet somewhere, waiting to be discovered.


I can imagine that 90% of housewives today would immediately throw it out if they found it, unfortunately. For the modern households eye, its just not an interest except to collectors.

That appears to be the Model 2, which came out directly after the model 0. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure it's a Model 1 Improved... early models after Model O were as follows:

Model 0 (1908-09)
Model 18 (1908-09)
Model 0 Improved (1909)
Model 194 (1909-16)
Model 195 (1909-16)
Model 2 (1909)
Model 1 (1910)
Model 1 Improved (1912)

From the illustrations and photographs I have, it looks nothing like Model 2 (which had a lower profile, cast chassis), but a lot like Model 1 Improved:
