NOT WORTH IT AT ALL
Personal I dont like em. They will tear apart your rugs and also really dont have good air flow at the nozzle on woodfloor it cant even pick up brid seed. When a 20 dollar dirt devil will its sorta sad. But that just my opinion. I think that if you have like industrial carpet there ok.

I had a new dining room rug completely ruined by a Dyson. The brush is much too stiff. I think they are somewhat overpriced and the tools were difficult to use. The machine is fairly quiet. I did not like having to empty and clean out the container. It was messy and I ended up with dust spread all over the room. The housing of the machine is tall so it is difficult to get under and around furniture. It does have good suction for the tools but I did not think it excelled at carpet cleaning. Not a bad cleaner if it will work on your carpets but I was much happier with my Kirby. I have never had any rug ruined by a Hoover or Kirby.

The dyson is made of plastic that the makers say will last for years,however it has been my experience that plastic tends to become brittle after a short time and is prone to crack.
i see this in the plastic bodied electrolux's and plastic machines once disassembled dont reassemble that easy,metal is a much better material for vacuums. i suppose most vacuum companies dont want their machines to last for more than a few years.

Don't like 'em either-have a couple in my collection-one of them was a trade in towards a kirby Ultimate G.Got the machine from the Kirby dealer in Greenville.Its the Dyson 'Yellow" basic-the brushroll in this one is TOO gentle-won't sweep up mauch of anything.Had to clean the rollerbrush when I got the machine-was twined in long hair.The other I have is the Dyson 'Ball" I bought new from Best Buy-The "Ball" steers well buts its bulky body gets in the way-and of course dumping their bins is messy.As for the filters--they are cheap enough to throw away after several months and just buy a new one rather than trying to wash it-MESSY!And yes its amazing how much dust clings to the cyclones-if you have a Dyson-look up into the cyclones after removing the dirt cup.I'll stay with the bag-esp vacs using Filtrete bags.No dumping-no dust-just chuck the bag into the garbage!Oh yes-the beater bar brush in the Dyson "Ball" is more aggressive than the older 07 I have.the Ball's brush can be easily removed by the user to clean it-in the 07 its a dealer job-but you can cut the debris wrapped up in it.

I owned a DC07 for a time, but found the emptying of the bin to be a pain. I have two dogs, and the static charge that would build up in the bin while vacuuming would cause the pet hair to attach to not only the inside of the bin, but the outside around the bin opening.
It was suggested by a poster on a defunct vac forum that I could throw a fabric softener sheet in the bin before vacuuming, which would have cut down on the static but...
It cleaned my berber well enough, but the whole static bit grew tiresome.

Cheffule I was scroling down and saw that actually you lived in punxsy. I live only like 15 minutes from there in indiana. Have you ever went to the sew and vac place down there. I have no lcue where it is so I have never went.

For me is like any other bagless machine, you are not saving anything if you have allergies. As described above, no matter how careful you are at emptying the machine, you still have a cloud of dust in the air.
Consumer Reports rates the Oreck XL 21, the most expensive Oreck to clean as well as the Dyson with fewer repairs. I don't always think Consumer Reports has the best ratings out there, but they still did not think it was an overly great deep cleaner and failed miserably at pet hair removal.
I wonder what the new Bissel Healthy Home vacuum is like, again bagless, so I want no part of that, but it does seem to be well built. Not unlike the Dyson, the onboard tools are useless...nothing like a good old Kirby, Eureka, Electrolux, GE, Sunbeam, Air-Way, Filter Queen, Royal, or Rainbow if you want good tools. Bagged verses bagless, will always win for me.

We have a Dyson DC 07 on display in our showroom. We use it to illustrate just that point - how the Dyson fails miserably at picking up pet hair. The roller brush reminds me of a ruler with bristles on each end - flimsy at best. The Oreck XL 21 devours pet hair. While the XL 21 is a pricey machine at $749.99, it's the only cleaner to give you a 21 year warranty, and free annual service for those 21 years. IMO, Orecks are the easiest vacuums to service because they have the fewest working parts. The XL-21 is nothing like the rest of the Oreck lineup. I always advise customers even if they choose not to buy an Oreck, they're much better off with a bagged machine.

Dyson is like real estate but instead of "location, location location" for the dyson it would be "brushroll, brushroll, brushroll". They are just not designed correctly. The machines are not durable and like all new machines just use too much electric. I am continually asked my opinion about them and always try to steer people away from them and all bagless machines. I much prefer just changing the bag once in awhile instead of dumping the thing every time I use it. The dyson looks cool and interesting but that is about it. I really think it is a rip off. The marketing dept. of the company is doing its job, not the actual vacuum. I really think that the whole bagless bubble is about to burst. In which case, the dyson will become a rare collectible.

Bought a DC14 1 year ago, thought it was a great vac however
you can not beat that hoover "IT BEATS AS IT SWEEPS AS IT CLEANS". The Dyson does not groom like a hoover does!
Went back to using the Hoover!!!

I see you live in South Bend. My grama lives in Niles and i go to a place call Michiana Vac & Fan Center....ever been there??
I live really close to you. Or have you ever been to Elkhart and gone to ABK vacuum Sales and Service??
That place is home to the vacuum dungon where the wall turns and it is a basement that has over 1300 vacuums, i took home about 10, the owner, John, and i are real good friends!!

I dont like the dyson eather
the brush needs to be cleaned ofton. the belts hard to change, eaven with the belt changing tool. it's bagless mess to dump. little to no air flow. the belt pullie goes bad and the cost is high to replace it. get a hoover convertible it will work better and last a long time.

Last year, I needed a brush roll for an all metal Royal, and when I gave the model number to the owner, he was sure that I was looking for a plastic roll for a Dirt Devil. He ordered the brush roll, and when it came in, sure enough, it was for a Dirty Devil. I ended up having to lug the Royal in for him to see that I knew what I was talking about, and that I had indeed given him the correct model number.
I don't know if the shop does much of a business, as by looking around, the place is cluttered and dirty...and he does not have much on the showroom floor for display. (Most of the vacs are used and dusty from sitting around). He also sells and services sewing machines. I am guessing that most people up here buy their machines at Wal-Mart, and pitch 'em when they go belly-up.
I used to live in Pittsburgh, and have been spoiled by some of the vac shops down there...and the great thrift stores, where I have picked up some wonderful machines over the years.
If you want directions to the shop here in town, let me know, and I will send them to you. The shop is really easy to find.
