We also have a whole bunch of dc07&14's that we use for loan vacuums in our shop

Dysons are one of the best bypass motor,or clean-air, uprights on the market. I've had my DC-14 for about three months now and use it daily, and has done extremely well. The floor head seals to the carpet more so then any other vacuum I have ever used. The tools are much better than other department store brands, and the filtration is great.

I am not sure how well it deep cleans though. I have seen videos by vacuum stores comparing the Dyson to various brands and the Dyson always looses. However they always use commercial-grade carpet, and very little people have this carpet in their home. It seems to do an okay job for me; certainly not anywhere close to a Hoover Concept or a Sanitaire.

I do dislike some parts of the vacuum. The brush-roll loves to collect hair, so I have to clean it much more often than other vacuums. It is also very bulky and a little top heavy.

If you must own a department store vacuum, Dyson is the way to go. I wish Hoover could come up with something better, but Dyson is king at this point.

dyson

hey gsheen what model of dyson do you think is the best? i am in the market for buying a brand new still sealed in it's package dyson.

I haven't tried it yet :) officially but a dc41 is really neat, other wise a dc28 air muscle if you can get one by it they are awesome vacs. steer clear of the canisters with air driven turbine heads ( my opinion )

Go for the DC41 ball, I am eagerly waiting for it to be released in the UK!

I love dysons! More the uprights, but I have been using a dc19t2 recently, the hose is a little short but apart from that I quite like it!

I wish in the vac comparison videos try would first vac up a bag of flour in each machine and then do the test. I don't know of anyone who uses a new bag every time they vacuum..

I really can't understand when people dont like them. They work, and well at that!

I'm already hearing complaints about the DC41 here in the US... Dysons are way more than they're all cracked up to be. The technology is cool, but the dust bins are way too small, the price is way too high, they are way over-engineered, and the build quality is just not there.

I've heard about it being very very heavy, it is very hard to push, the build is actually lower than it was before (which amazes me), and that their trick new three zone dust compartment has a tendency to kick up dust really bad and cross contaminate when dumping which plugs up the filter fast. Some of these are nit picky, but then again it is a 600 Dollar machine, I would expect it to be on par with Riccar, Miele, and Aerus Lux uprights.

I own the DC28 Air Muscle

and think it is just ok .

Very heavy to push as I have Frieze` carpet.

Very bulky and hard to move around. I used it twice
and went back to my Sentria,Aerus Guardian and Hoover Windtunnel Max .

I try and try to like Dyson and I just cant . I had a DC17 animal before
and got rid of it also. I prefer my Rainbow E2 Onyx for a bagless machine.

Dan, you should of posted that dyson to me! I'm desperate to try one!! Haha

I'm the same with rainbow, I want to love him, I try, I just don't.

I don't mind the bulk, i really like the tools on a dysons. They are fast to use. I would be using them anyway when I clean so I don't mind having to use them where the dyson won't fit. Don't get me wrong, if they did away with the bulk I'd be happy too!

I like a machine that is hard to push and pull. I find it more satisfying.. I vacuum a lot, I like to think its good exercise.. :D

And Sean, as for the contaminated bin emptying to filter, I thought would happen when I first saw the machine. Why they don't have the feeding the cyclone from the top of the machine like the dc39 I don't know. But I'm a good one for wiping down the bin after I have emptied anyway. I like to see the shine :)

DC23

I have a DC23 turbine head and so far so good. I know the turbine head is not a favorite of many, but for me it has worked out well. I'd really like to pick up a Dyson upright but haven't found a good enough price, given that I'm pretty much out of room for any more machines.

What does the DC23 Allergy include that makes it "Allergy?" Just additional attachments?

By the way, did Dyson solve that problem on the DC41 where the head would lift off the carpet on certain knaps? For me that would be my greatest concern.

The dc23 allergy is the basic version of the dc23 , then you get the animal( turbine head in some markets )  , then the motorhead. all feature hepa filtration.

If I can give you one bit of advice fr your 23 keep the brushes in the turbine head clean and free of string or thread , remove them regularly and knock out the dust on the inside of the brush and check for hair that has gotten wrapped around the shaft as it enters the main unit were the bushes sit. keep that free of dust as well. I blow them out with a compressor and we even ad a tiny bit of oil to the bushes , make sure yo use brass bush oil though , it keeps it running well for much longer. We have endless trouble from those turbine heads here in SA

I have a DC23 turbine head. If I had to do over again I wouldnt have bought it. While the suction is king, ive used other canisters the were close to it at a fraction of the price. Also, the turbine head pisses me off. While I think its an inventive device, its the kind I would expect on a $40 no name Walmart special. I view it as a cost cutting measure to a power head, not something I would expect on a $400 vacuum.

The turbine head does a poor job of fluffing up the carpet also. If im expecting company I run my Hoover Nano-Lite over the carpet. I love that litte guy. First of all it looks like a baby Dial-O-Matic. Secondly, its less cumbersome than the dyson. And third it cost me $39.

Canisters are my first love though. Hoover had a sharp looking one a few years back but seems to have discontinued it. I didnt care for the looks of the Windtunnel multi cyclonic so I started looking elsewhere. I heard good things about Dyson so I bought the DC23. With half my house being wood floor (its acutally laminte but *shhh* that will be our little secret) the Dyson will eventually earn its keep, but I still like my Hoover better...
