Dyson V6 Absolute

Hi all,

I purchased a V6 Absolute from Dysons Ebay Store, a refurbished model. I decided go get this as my car is far from my flat so need to be able to clean it. I also want a powerful machine to use in my 1 bedroom apartment. My DC35 serves me very well but I guess the V6 Absolute will last 3 mins longer with the motorised head on.

I have noticed the HEPA filter on the end has a tiny bit of play. It's not wobbling as such and it seals on the machine nicely, but notice an ever so slight minuscule movement on the HEPA filter cage. Is this normal or is the fitment possibly a little 'loose'? It's not coming away or unscrews off the machine just the tiny movement if I fiddle with the HEPA filter.

I've not tried the machine yet, but the brush head appears to be really powerful. It's in near enough new condition for a refurb model.

Nice! I want to get either a V8 or a V6 total clean ( as I'm not keen on the orange wand). Also, how's your DC24? I bought a DC24i a few months ago, couldn't cope well in our house because the filter got really dirty after a few uses.

Hiii Parwaz,

I decided to get a new Dyson cordless after my managed to crack the swivel neck support on my DC24 when I was vacuuming under the glass cabinet TV stand. Now when using the hose on my DC24 the machine sometimes leads more to the left due to the leverage on the broken swivel support protrusion.

As you may know from my Facebook update, I was visiting Birmingham for 2 nites and on Sunday I decided to pop into Currys in the centre near the Bull Ring, there is an amazing Dyson display there! Not seen such a fantastic set up in a long time. Anyway, I decided to have a play with the machines. Tried the V8 and fell in love with it, due the the quietness of it, it's near inaudible on standard mode. I tried a V6 and it's definately louder. I then decided to purchase a V8 via Very and get 20% off, I then decided to cancel the other as still didn't fancy spending £359 got a cordless vacuum cleaner. I then took the plunge and purchased the V6 Absolute from Dysons Ebay store for £269.

I have tried it for a few seconds on the living room carpet and it's great, seemed to pick up more than the DC24 and it definately picks up more than my DC35. As I live in an apartment I can't vacuum late as the noise travels downstairs so I look forward to trying the V6 in the whole flat and see the results. I will use it more than the DC24 I think.

My DC24 is doing fine apart from the slightly broken but on the swivel lock at the front and the pre motor filter clogging up after only 3 weeks usage.

The only thing I dislike about it is the brushbar rattles so much! I have to stuff tissue in the brushbar end piece that the cog goes into to try and stop/minimise the horrible rattle. It does the job, but with the loss of suction after every 3 weeks or so and then requiring filter washing to remove fine dust that's clogged the filter material, it causes my machine to not suck as well and not pick up as much as it does with a clean filter inside. I certainly notice the loss of suction on the DC24.

Glad I'm not the only one with the same DC24 issue lol. We have a DC25 Animal and it's cyclones separate dust much better than the DC24 ones and the filters stay much cleaner for longer.

As for the Currys display in Bullring, I was there last week! The display was upstairs wasn't it? At the front by the windows? Awesome! I got to try the V6 aswell because the Dyson salesman was there and he seemed like a nice chap, had an interesting Dyson chat too.

I really want a V6, but will go for a V8 if they bring out another nice colour scheme, like the DC59/44/V6 types. We currently use a 3 month old Dyson DC41 Mk2 and a 4 and a half year old DC33 Animal, both work well but as we vacuum like 2-3 times a day daily, it's a bit annoying especially as they have long cables which need winding up again so a cordless would be lovely. I think for you the V6 will beat your DC24 in pretty much every way except the the bin capacity and that it can't stand up.

Hi Parwaz,

I used the machine today and think it's great. It's picks up really well and has a self propelling feel on my carpets. As you know I live in a 1st floor apartment that has poor sound insulation and I'm worried about the noise the V6 Absolute head transfers to the floor and the bristles soo drive deep into the pile. I was wondering if the V6 standard model might have a more gentler cleaner head? Do you know if it does? If it does, I might return this machine and get a brand new V6 for £50 less.

I also find that my carpets are shedding real bad with this V6 Absolute machine. It's more fluff than dust that's coming up. Didn't have that with the DC24 and definately not with the low powered DC35.

I have 30 days to decide and may return this machine, your input would be appreciated.

Hiya

The V6 has a DC50 style brushroll and that actually beats the carpet quite good for a cordless The V6 Animal is basically a DC59, same suction and all but a different head and no HEPA filter for the exhaust like the Absolute

The DC24 brushroll has soft bristles, the V6 has a Dc50 type of brush where there are no gaps and it's just a better brush than the DC24 one which may explain why it's deep cleaning better and the suction may be higher as well. The DC35 also has sparse bristles like the DC24 and there's no beating action. The V6 brushroll has lumps. Do you feel the carpet vibrate with the V6?

Good job you didn't get the V8 because that has more suction and a more powerful head!

Yes I feel the carpet vibrate with the V6 Absolute. Also it feels like the machine wants to 'pull forwards' when I use it. I suppose it's only a good thing. I could get a standard V6, but perhaps the cleaning effectiveness won't be as good. Plus the HEPA filter must retain the microscopic particles that the standard V6 lacks. The DC35 I have did the job, but the brush hardly agitated the carpet, it took a week or more to get the bin full, with the V6 Absolute, the bin is full to the top after using it just twice!

Perhaps I'll just keep it and use it instead of the DC24 as I feel with the V6 Absolute, I don't need to go over and over the carpet. I can quickly over the whole flat with the machine before the battery runs out. It's just a shame my flat has such a poor construction, noises get transferred, even talking in the bedroom, neighbours can hear talking. It's ridiculous. That's why I can vacuum too late and I feel awkward if I vacuum more than once a day (I have a bit of OCD). The V6 Absolute will do the job of a bigger machine but more quicker and I can use it daily. I'll still keep my DC35 incase I need to vacuum an area after 9pm.

With regards to the Currys store, it was upstairs and at the front. That's where u discovered the V8 and then decided I wanted one of them. I went and got it but ended up with this V6 Absolute. Excellent display there.

Yes I was at that exact spot a few days earlier! They also had loads of tools on a table with holders presented nicely and all!

Good idea aswell, keeping the DC35 for night, the DC24 has the motor in the ball which means that the noise will be louder for the neighbour below you. The V6 self propels aswell? Awesome! My DC41 Mk2 does that too.

I live in an 1894 Victorian terraced house and so we and the neighbours can hear each other, in my bedroom I can hear his music (lol) and once heard their Henry vacuum.

My other neighbour has a DC33 and I was watching TV at night, it was midnight and I could hear them doing midnight vacuuming even with the garden door and windows shut! They vacuum a few times a day like we do aswell so we know we're not alone lol.

What will happen to the DC24?

My neighbours are so unlike me. I'm mad and do things at random times, go to bed late and wake up late when not working, but they go to bed earlyish and wake up well early on weekends. So that's why we clash in that way. The noise is more to do with the brush vibrating and the walls are so rubbish, it sounds like a thunderstorm from above when someone stomps their feet or an upright vacuum cleaner is going. I can imagine the rotating brush would make a loud noise for them below me.

Yes the V6 Absolute has such a strong brush bar action, the machine feels like it wants to go forwards, it makes it easier for me to clean quickly with it I guess.

The DC24 will still be used, maybe once or twice a week. I still have this thing that I don't feel I've cleaned properly, unless I've used a vacuum cleaner with a cable attached and plugged in. Madness I know.

I think it would happen with any flat and terraced house. And lol I also feel the same way with corded vacuums, that have a constant power and can be used for hours on end unlike a cordless.
