Dyson are set to invest £250 million into the business to research new products and will be creating 3000 new engineers in the process.

I think they are investing\committing a total of £1billion in R&D as they want to launch no more than 100 products over the next 4 years including entering in 4 new market sectors.
The 3000 jobs in the UK will be part of the expansion of their HQ building in the UK, expanding this to include a new R&D building to house all these new 3000 jobs plus the existing Engineers currently there.
James Dyson hinted on the BBC Breakfast this morning motor technology and batteries are a big part they are continuing to invest in more and more, making the new Dyson 360 Robot vacuum possible. He was asked if he would bring manufacturing back to the UK his reply was not at present as he needs the components near to the manufacturing plant plus he said there is no one in the UK that can manufacture the components he needs currently, If there was he would think about the UK.
I personally think Dyson with regards to his vacuum cleaners will continue to develop the cordless range to improve battery run time and performance to match and maybe exceed corded vacuums in the future. I think we will see less corded vacuums from Dyson in the near future.

What he NEEDS to do is:
Replace the clogging Lint Filter on the automatic Clothes Dryer with a cyclone. Clothes would dry their fastest, with no loss of airflow through the dryer as the cyclone collects the lint - unlike the lint screens used presently. The cyclone should be 'on top' so you can see the lint collect, and know when it's time to empty. He should pair it with the CounterRotator washing machine and sell it in America. In the USA, we are just now getting into front loading washers in a big way - after decades of top loaders. A Dyson washer and dryer, each with UNIQUE features, would be a huge seller.

I would never say never for Dyson to bring out another washing machine. They stopped production as to costly to manufacture. I would think they are working on a new version of the contra rotator washing machine that is better and cost effective to manufacture. Although they never went into production with the original Dyson robotic vacuum cleaner (cancelled at last minute) they now have a robotic vacuum cleaner that they are happy with and that has been launched into the market (or soon to be launched in some markets!). So you never know about another Dyson washing machine. I think they have in the past filed patents on a dryer machine for clothes.
You never know they may be part of these 100 products over 4 years with entering 4 new market sectors!

Great idea Dysonman1 for a dryer using the cyclone to collect the lint.
One product I'm sure will surface as there is patents applied for is a quieter hair dryer!
Can Dyson reinvent the upright ball technology for a 4th generation of this technology!? Or is the V ball technology the last version of this technology and Dyson will just keep updating this version!?

I think Dyson will end up putting small balls on so that their ball uprights can get under low furniture without having to lift up a bed to get it under : )

Think your right sebo_fan but they will only achieve that if they start using their digital motor that is smaller and lighter in size in their corded uprights! Hopefully they will! No reason why not if the digital motor in the DC59 slim is equalient to 300 watts.

they ASKED you to BUY their product, just to clean under the bed?! Wow, just wow. I would've put a power-nozzle on a Kirby before I did that, but who's to say that's not already in the works?

They did once yes! Or use a full size floor tool to vacuum under low furniture! I've been on at Dyson to develop an upright over the years that lies flat to vacuum fully under low furniture and beds etc.... but that was their solution to my suggestion!
As I kept telling them when you are just putting the vacuum around as part of a daily clean you don't want to be getting another vacuum out or additional tools out of the cupboard to clean under low furniture. You want to be able to do that with the main vacuum you are using. It's a problem (in my eyes) they have not solved with all that technology know how the company has now. I think it's a step back. They had a model in the UK DC03 which was a slim upright that could lie flat and be hung on the wall to store. Not brilliant performance though. Why they didn't develop that design as the bin capacity is small these days like the DC03 was (2 litre) where as the DC01 and DC04 at the time where about 4 litres.

The Dyson fan heater is the one which perplexes me the most. Unlike other Dyson products past and present -which aimed to enter the exisiting market with a competing product- their fan heaters were not built to replace the tiny £10 fan heaters which people have under desks and so on, rather it seems to be targeted as a whole-of-room heating method, replacing which other method I am not sure.
Added to which, there is a strong market for electric focal point fires, many of which (particularly the inset type) contain fan heaters, and even modern bathrooms still have a wall-mounted fan heater in many homes, so to fit their fan heater technology into those situations would be quite worthwhile considering I beleive, but I doubt that this would be as 'exciting' for James Dyson.

Dyson claim to be so advance, yet their vacuums can't do something a 1950s Signer upright can....Get under those beds!!!!
Dyson "Counterrotator" washers"Not only reliability issues-the counterotating drums were TEARING up clothes!This was mentioned breifly on the forums in the neighboring Appliance site.Do like the idea of cyclones on a dryer.-Of course if users emptied the dryer filters after each load-then they are unnecessary.
