Dyson question

Well it seems that my array of cordless vacs are begining to die and their usefullness is outdated, and I find myself using my 1979 dustbuster more and more and wishing that I had versa-pack's for my floorbuster. So I am seriously considering a dc35 mostly because it can do floors, but I would also need it for the car so I was wondering if the dc31 animal's smaller powerhead would work with the dc35. Also how well in general does it work on most floors? And does the charge last long enough to get around an entire house then do above the floor cleaning?

The DC31 is fantastic! I can attest to that because I own one and use it a lot. I used a demo DC35 at Best Buy and wasn't really impressed. It's a neat idea, but the brush roll just isn't aggressive at all. I'm waiting for reviews from owners, but I am speculating that this Dyson is underpowered for the tasks it's being marketed to perform. I don't know if it is compatible with the small motor head that comes with the DC31 Animal. Even if it is, I don't think that attachment is available to purchase by itself. I might stick with the DC31.

While the DC35 isn't designed to replace a full-size corded upright or canister, it certainly has enough suction for everyday cleaning tasks. Twice the power of any other cordless cleaner in use, thanks to the digital motor - and it won't clog like a 'dirt cup' or bagged cordless.

I've had mine since it was launched a couple of months ago, and I find myself using it almost daily! No complaints with it at all, so far - works well on lower pile carpets, and excels on hard floors.

DC35 is compatible with the smaller DC31 Animal head (it's actually included with the machine for the Japanese market), and is available to buy from Dyson.com as a spare for DC31 Animal for $69.99 (see link). However, you can remove the aluminium wand and attach the floorhead straight to the cleaner itself for stairs, mattresses, etc.

Scott, to answer your question about battery life, the lithium-ion batteries give out fade-free power for 13 mins for floor cleaning, 15 mins for handheld cleaning, or 6 mins of high power for more stubborn dirt.

Dyson question

Just watched them demo this morning on shopping channel. Looks very very easy to use and has lots of nice features BUT they wanted $299.95. It would be great if you had a specific need for a powerful hand cleaner. They showed how you could remove the long handle and just use the power brush to clean stairs.

Scott, just to update you: I've ordered the DC31 Animal Motorhead unit, and I'll let you know how I get on using it with DC35 - and post some pics, of course!

It looks great. I dont feel its worth such the expensive price tag but I guess that's only my opinion, I wouldn't buy one! Having got the DC16 nearly 5 years ago and spening £100 on it. I have to say its great having a handheld to use in the week in-between using the 'bigger' Dyson DC24 vacuum.

I just go over the carpet upstairs and sometimes in the living room.

The DC35 with the motorised brush roll must really help clean up a treat for pet owners and people with houses that get very dirty.

I upgraded from my DC16 Animal to the Dyson Digital Slim, and have no regrets. It was expensive, but it's so cool and versatile that I find myself constantly using it. It's not a deep cleaner, but as Jack said, it does an good job surface cleaning carpets, and kicks ass on bare floors. I love how I can run the small nozzle around furniture and in cramped hallways (or vacuum rooms), and it can get anywhere! The battery life is fantastic. I can thoroughly vacuum my car out with it, and still have charge to spare. Its unique design constantly grabs friends attention when they see it docked in my hallway.

I do have a couple small complaints. The aluminum wand scratches very easy, so may God help you if it rubs on the underside of a couch during an ambitious cleaning. The wand fits in very tightly, and it takes some effort to switch up all the neat tools (but it's worth it for the versatility). Only other thing I've noticed is the filter gets dirtier more quickly than I would have expected (sand makes it past cyclones), but considering how frequently I use it, and how much fine dust it picks up, the cyclones do a very respectable job (I still haven't had to wash the filter, just swept it off once).

I am incredibly happy to have it around! Also that commercial does an excellent job conveying the vac's strong points!

Corey - thanks so much for sharing your feedback, I'm glad to hear you're getting on well with the Digital Slim.

With regard to what you've mentioned about wand getting easily scratched - I've found that with my own DC35, a Magic Eraser takes off all but the deepest of gouges, so that might be a tip worth trying if you're concerned about the appearance. The wand is designed to fit very tightly to the machine and the Motorhead to avoid air leakage around the joints, but you may find it becomes a little easier to separate after a while.

Scott - here is a picture of my Digital Slim fitted with the Motorhead from the DC31 Animal. It works perfectly with this machine!

Thanks Jack! I would love to get one of those smaller DC31 Motorheads. The DC16's was excellent, and it looks improved in every way!

I shall try a Magic Eraser to see if that helps with the scratches (I have some rebadged Hoover ones!). the tight-fitting wand isn't really a problem for me, but I could see people fumbling around with it before getting the hang of it (with the wand and the motorhead attached it can lead to a balancing act as you change tools). I took it to a friends apartment, and she was holding the hand vac, and I plugged the wand into it, and the shift in weight balance caused the motorhead to flop down hard onto the floor before she could react. It was pretty funny!

I use the thing practically daily, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone. It's a creative and useful cleaning tool to have around! The design is very forward-thinking!

Also just a couple more things...

Shortly before buying the DigSlim, I repurchased a Hoover Windtunnel Air from Wal-Mart. I took it back to my office, and opened it up. It was obvious that the Chinese factory that it came from was really pushing their workers to get the thing slapped together as quickly as possible. It was basically thrown into a cardboard box with almost no protection around it. The packaging was done as quickly and as cheaply as possible. As a result, parts were broken in the box, and the vacuum howled while running because the dirt bin entrance seal got damaged during shipping. I returned it, and later got another one that has been just fine.

Anywho, a couple weeks later the Dyson Digital Slim arrived on my porch, and I excitedly ran it up to my room to unbox it. It was like buying an Apple or Nintendo product. It was so thoughtfully packaged, with everything nicely padded and organized. They clearly spared no expense. There were even unecessary touches to delight the consumer, like huge color pictures of the hand vac that you cannot see until the purchaser breaks the seal and unfolds that first cardboard flap. I loved it! Very classy!

One last thing. I've said it before, but the charging dock is soo cool! It holds the tools you aren't using (even the wand and motorhead ), and the way it docks is futuristically satisfying. Another unecessarily cool design touch! A+ Dyson!
