Dyson help!

A friend of mine recently bought a Dyson (2 weeks ago). I'm not sure of the model, it was working fine until today. He said there is no suction from the brushroll, but there is suction from the hose. He said the brushroll is turning but there is no suction. I'm just going by what he is telling me, I am going to look at it in a few days. He said he did vacuum up about a 6 inch long plastic twist tie by accident, not sure if that would cause a problem because there is still suction from the hose. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, if there's suction at the hose, but no suction at the floor nozzle, that would indicate there's something between the two, like a blockage...

Depending on the model, it should have removable inspection tubes, pull those off and locate the blockage, then clear it out and it should work...

I fixed an Argos Value special vac yesterday with the very same problem in about 5 minutes, a quick clearout of the pipes (with another vacuum, to suck out the blockage) restored it's function, so it's not a difficult task...

Sounds like they sucked up something they shouldn't have, IF they READ the INSTRUCTIONS ( most don't) there are illustrated instructions as to what to do if you have a blockage, there are various ports that can be checked.

Dysons website and 'askdyson' on YouTube are really helpful step by step instructions for things like this.

Did the tie make it to the bin?

David (twocvbloke) has pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

I'm not familiar with Dysons, but with other modern clean air Vacuum Cleaners there is a small passage going from the cleaning head to the hose (or main suction passage) and that can be blocked easily if a large object, or lots of something small and dense is sucked up.

My advice is to strip down what you can and see if you can see anything.
