Anyone else tried one of these yet?

Bought one of these a few days ago, as there was hefty staff discount available through my workplace and I had a little "mad money" to spend. Now I'm not usually the biggest Dyson fan, but I was looking for a light and nimble stick-type cleaner for quick pick ups and this seemed to be the best of the bunch. Wasn't particularly impressed with previous Dyson handhelds, but now they've upped the suction power and running time, decided to give it a go.

I use a Sebo cylinder for proper heavy-duty cleaning, but the Dyson has so far proven to be very useful for a quick zip through the flat each night before I dash off to work. Usually that means vacuuming the kitchen and bathroom floors, the main walkways through the hall/lounge/diner area, and finishing off by giving the sofa a quick once-over. The running time so far has proved to be more than sufficient, and it hasn't run flat on me yet. Suction power on low speed is plenty sufficient, and on high speed it's almost getting close to what you would expect from some full size vacs.

The powered floor head was the biggest surprise. Although the bristles are quite soft, it's powerful enough that you can actually hear it giving the carpet a good pummelling. The mini power nozzle works a treat for getting cat hair off the upholstery, and it even did a good job on the gritty floor mats in my car.

Overall I do like it, and because it's so convenient to grab at any time, it has been getting a lot of use. I don't think for one minute it is worth the RRP of £359, and would never recommend anyone spend that much on one. I only paid half that, which in my mind is still pushing it a little for a handheld/stick vac. Considering it does what it says though, and is actually proving to be more useful than I anticipated, I don't have any complaints. Maybe the docking station could feel a little more robust, but the vac itself I'm very pleased with.

Time will tell how it holds up into the future, but I'd be interested in hearing from other Dyson handheld owners what their thoughts are after living with one.

Awesome! But whats the suction like compared to the DC44? I thought the motorised head made all the difference and personally I think the DC44 looks much better in looks compared to the DC59

Sorry, I have no idea how it compares against the DC44 as I've never used one. The only Dyson handheld I've tried previously is the original DC16. That was only "just OK" in terms of suction, and combined with the disappointing six minute runtime made it very poor value for money IMHO. It's only now they've managed to wring just under half an hour's use out of one that I consider it useful enough.

The dc16 is a bargain at under 20 quid, not at full rrp.

Can't wait for these to fall into scrap territory so I can get one and have a play!

My thoughts on the Digital Slim vacuum cleaners are varied.

Let's start off with the positives:

- Flexible design, great for stair cleaning and all your crevices.
- The accessories and other tools you can buy are brilliant (soft dusting brush, stubborn dirt brush etc)
- Excellent for the car! No cord to hold you back!

And now the Negatives, which I wish Dyson would solve:

- Tiny little impeller, though with a powerful motor, it's not going to provide the best suction. Slightly Bigger impeller needed.
- Battery life, 20 minutes is ok, but I would want 30 for my house.
- G-forces in the cyclones will be reduced, although making the cones smaller increases the forces, you need good suction to 'supercharge' the cyclonic effect for several cyclones. Hence why most Root Cyclonic Dyson uprights have great suction and good separation, as well as G-forces of up to 200,000G. (Lot's of science!)

I don't think stick vacs are there yet. I'm more of an upright man, but hey, that's just me.
