My mom ordered this a while ago and UPS finally delivered it today (you can imagine how hard it was waiting!). It's a brand new Dyson DC25 Platinum, it came with a flexible crevice tool, Flatout tool, and a multi-angle dusting brush along with the standard crevice/dusting brush combo tool and upholstery tool. She doesn't want any of the extra tools so I'm just going to keep them if I get a Dyson as I'm kind of interested in the new DC41.

This is replacing the DC18 that I bought used off of eBay in "alright" condition. The end cap on the brush-roll was broken when I unpacked it but it seemed to work fine and has held up for the almost 2 years that she's been using it.

And what is it like compared to the DC18? About 10x better. A little bulkier, but a lot more powerful. This one actually seals to the rugs and can lift them off the ground, no problem.

My mom vacuumed earlier today with the DC18 and this is what I picked up with the DC25.

IMO it sucks that some people continually bash Dyson. Sure, some of their previous models weren't too hot...but most of the current models are great machines. We never had a problem with the DC18 and it was a pretty good cleaner, I don't expect the new one to have any problems either, and as you can see, it's an even better cleaner.

I think your dc18 needs a service , end caps and a brush roll , I have both these machines at home and they are equilly affective, they have the same vacuum motor too.

We hardly ever get a dc25 in for warranty work and when they do come in the customer has sucked up something they shouldn't have, water ! socks ! and many other things

I have heard of a legend that a woman who bought a Dyson used it like a Rainbow-she would fill the dust cup with water! Then she wondered why the machine wouldn't work.Heard this from a trade magazine for vacuum shops.

I had a customer who did just that with a brand new electrolux power glide / eureka she fiiiled it with water and switched it on , nice mess.

I sucked upi water with my dc23 that we use to clean the cars, My old truck had neded a screen replacment and they hadnt fitted it properly so it leaked and when I was cleaning it the machine sucked up some water , as long as its not to much it won't damage the machine , water is denser than air so the cyclone filtered it out of the air stream. I did have to strip and dry out the cyclone tough
