Hello.
I have recently sold a reconditioned Dyson DC03, and as a part exchange the buyer gave me their DC24, which had a brushroll fault. The fault was the brushroll itself was rattling quite badly, which made a loud noise and the whole brush unit shook about. However, I had kept the cleaner head from my gran's DC24 whoch I replaced the head on, so I got the brush and endcap from my gran's old cleaner head, and thankfully, now there is no rattle, and I'm glad I kept the old head with a broken motor.
However, upon using it with the brushroll repaired, I had noticed that it was indeed, very noisy, so much so that you couldn't hear the brush spinning. Oh dear. one of the reason's they had bought the DC03 instead of getting the DC24 repaired was they had recently moved to a bigger house, so the DC24 was impractical for the size of the house. However, at some point, I'm assuming that at some point they've vacuumed up plaster dust, as its all around where the motor filter sits, and also all around the cyclone unit, and in the top filter, so I'm assuming the motor has being killed by plaster dust.
So I have two options:
1) Source a new motor and replace it, however it appears to be a very difficult job, as it involves removing the ball, and getting inside it. From what I've read on the internet, it appears to be complicated, and I'm not sure how much the motor cost's, but I'm assuming it's not cheap to do, and may be time consuming.
2) Buy a second hand DC24 off eBay with a working motor, but with a broken brushroll motor, as I can swap over the brush from the one with the broken motor, and put it on the one with the working main motor. This means I can also put any broken parts on, from the one I currently have, as it doesn't appear to be too abused, I've managed to clean up most of the parts nicely.
So what option do you think I should go for, I'm considering Option 2 mostly, but the problem is waiting for one to appear broken locally. I would be prepared to spend a bit on one with a working motor, as I have a buyer who would be interested in a DC24.
Thanks in advance for the advice. I'll post pictures of it soon. It's an early one as it's an All Floors model instead of Multi Floor, and it has a lighter grey cable.
Thanks.
Jacob
