Dyson DC24 Experiment

It seemed like my Dyson DC24 was ripping the nap out of the carpet, so I tried an experiment. I got another brush roll and took out the plastic bristles and rebristled it with horsehair. I'm no longer getting huge wads of fuzz from my oriental rugs. It's no longer ripping the nap out, also the motor in the nozzle sounds like it's under less strain.

That is Genius! I don’t know how you did it but congratulations.. it looks so professional with your horsehair refurb, I bet it was a long and tedious job.

If you ever streamline your method, I bet a lot of us (including me) would buy this refurb brushroll.

I have similar issues as my dining room rug is a delicate oriental, so the Only vacuum I use on it is my Sebo Felix with the special Soft Brushroll.

Congrats on a great job! I own the Dyson DC24 in the Red Color Target store edition, and it cleans well but I’d love to have softer bristles too. Dyson would be so ahead of the game if they offered a second softer brushroll like yours AND they must start putting Suction Control on their higher suction vacuums! My DC65 with its 245 Air watts just suction’s itself to super soft carpet and won’t move.

Is horsehair stiff enough to effectively clean thicker/wall to wall carpets? I could see on more delicate materials, but not as much on modern day carpets. But perhaps the shortness of the horsehair bristles still do the job compared to the nylon ones.

I think their stiff bristles is their cleaning trick, though many carpets won't like!I have one clingy synthetic carpet with cat hair, daily, the Kirby and Royal kick butt on it, but some hair stays. Either Dyson it's gone.

Karastan has a list of recommended vacuums and Dyson is nowhere on that list.

My Karastans and my hand knotted wool orientals prefer a softer bristle that isn't ripping the nap out of the rug or a straight suction machine like my Henry.
