Today is a very special day for me.
Exactly 10 years ago today, when I was 13 years old, my dad and I went to Target and he purchased a Dyson DC07 Animal upright vacuum cleaner for $499.99. We were needing a new vacuum after our Bissell Cleanview had its handle release pedal broken. We needed something more reliable and expensive, so we went with Dyson, which I've had an eye on for a few years.
We brought the Dyson home, unpacked the box and put it together, which was an easy process. After assembly, it looked so shiny and beautiful. Then the time came to finally unwrap the cord, plug it in and turn it on. The first thing we noticed was how noisy it was. But it was so powerful! We couldn't believe the amount of dirt and pet hair it picked up from our carpets. Plus, it left the carpets nice and groomed.
Little did I know that this Dyson would become the most reliable vacuum cleaner we've ever owned. It's built like a tank! It's taken quite a bit of abuse, and it still works just as well as the day we've bought it.
The Dyson remained in use until the summer of 2013, when my dad received a Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet for free through the Amazon Vine program. I began using that instead of the Dyson, which was pushed to the side as a secondary vacuum. Then, in late May of 2014, my mom announced that she was divorcing my dad, and needed a vacuum for her new apartment. So, despite my objections, she took the old Dyson DC07 Animal, even though she doesn't have or want pets. And despite multiple attempts, I unsuccessfully tried to convince her to buy a new vacuum.
Today, 10 years later, the Dyson is still alive and works just like it did a decade ago. My mom still owns it. Man, what a beast it is!
Here is a picture I took of it last week. Happy birthday to this amazing vacuum cleaner!
