I have a 1998 Dyson DC04 Absolute + . Mine was built on the 12th December 1998 in Malmesbury, making mine one of the first DC04s ever made. Mine came from the carboot for £9.50, because you just can't beat the carboot, can you!?

Will do a video on my YT channel 'VacManTim' when it's fully restored, then it's onto the Turbopower Junior!

Joe: Thank you! :D I used to have this same one in 2008 and lasted 4 weeks :( not bad £5 tho :D still got the cable from it
Tim: Awesome! the DC04 is a good collection piece even though they are not everywhere, they are decent vacs
Sam: Awesome! unfortunately my DC04 doesnt have the date written on the serial number, even though its a UK made model :) but yours is quite good especially because its a limited edition from 1999- My DC04 was burnt out, the guy turned it on in front of me and it made a groaning bubble sound with no smoke, but the filter and body etc stank of burnt out motor, and the filters were filthy, I washed everything except the hose, wand and inside the cyclone which I will do soon, I love the hose cuff, it has a suction valve button :)

That's a shame, you'll have to find a new motor.

Mr Parwaz, I hate to say it but you paid over the odds for such a bad DC04 which had a duff motor. You need to be careful on Ebay of getting carried away and over bidding on vacs. I wouldn't have paid more than a fiver for that machine. The advert was very poor - it had NO info at all about the machine, and those who just say "For Spares or Repairs" without a reason why should get ignored - as it could need a very expensive fix, and those who put out an advert as poor as that don't deserve a sale.
Try to avoid too many bid retractions as well - it doesn't look good on you as a bidder and if you get too many, you are asking to get in trouble with Ebay.

Steve: I guess your right. £22 for a burnt out DC04 is probs a rip off, I feel so stupid now, I might sell it on
BTW How did you know I done bid retractions? :P

Anyone can call up details of bidders on eBay, its a way to find out how trustworthy a bidder is. Even though bidders names are hidden from other bidders, as you said you won the auction, I clicked on your bidder ID and it told me that you have done 6 bid retractions in the last month, and 8 in the last 6 months. They also put sellers off letting you bid on their items if they think you will pull out at the last moment and ruin their sale. EBay doesn't like bidders making retractions as they cause distrust when over-used and ruin people's auctions.

The only time you cant check out bidders on an auction is if the seller makes the auction private, in which case bidders details are all hidden. This is in itself a bad thing as it hides the fact from potential bidders that the seller may be shill bidding on his own items (using fake accounts to inflate the price by bidding on your own items).
I never bid on an item where the seller has made it a private auction as I then don't trust the seller - he could be cheating the system.
Bid retractions and a bidder that only ever bids on 1 seller's items are a tell tale sign of shill bidding as well.
I have used Ebay for years, and usually can tell when someone is cheating at an auction.

Dating them is not possible on later models, but some of the earlier DC04's had the date of manufacture on the serial number label. Its also possible to date the very early DC07's to 2001 or 2002 as they were not stamped with "Made in Malaysia".

It is annoying really that most Dysons can not be dated from the serial numbers like other brands, although I have heard that Dyson will tell you the manufacture date if you give them the serial number.
