Hey all!
I was wondering if anybody could help me out. I'm looking for a good pic and maybe some info on The Dyson DA001. As far as I know, this is the first generation of the DC01 model and are quite hard to come about with all original parts. As any Dyson enthusiast in Britain will know, you see second hand Dysons with mismatched parts everywhere, most commonly at car boot sales and a number of these have the older DA001 parts on them. They bare the older Dyson logo and their parts usually have a kind of brownish tint to them with age so a good one is understandably very rare. Has anybody had any experience with these machines? and again, a photo and some info would be ace! I plan to send Dyson an email asking about them and other earlier machines. Thanx alot guys,

Happy Hoovering! Charlie :)

I inherited a DA001 from a friend, and noticed several differences to the DC01.

The motor casing halves were not compatible with the later DC01.

When the wand and hose were in the stored position, the bottom of the aluminium wand opened a spring-loaded valve that allowed air to be drawn in prevent the motor overheating. This valve appeared to be missing on the DC01. The air if I remember correctly, was drawn in through those odd-looking slots on the pivoting cleaner head.

The hose was rather short.

The silvery finish (to me) was better than the grey speckled fleck of the later versions.

The brushroll had different end caps. The soleplate was fixed (later DC01s had pivoting soleplate).

Anyway, I tried to order motor casing halves from Dyson (the heat of the motor had warped the plastic guides that kept the motor in its proper position). Dyson could only supply DC01 parts, so they asked me to return the new parts, as well as the cleaner itself, and in return they sent me a refurbished DC01. Very good service.

That sounds pretty cool :) You don't happen to have a picture with you do ya? I'm very interested in Dyson's early machines. I found out just the other day, that before the DA001 came out, Dyson had intended to make a 3 in 1 vax type, tub vac. Having made a good prototype, they decided against it right at the last minute, I can't remember why exactly but just after they decided to do the upright, Vax sales plunged as did 3 in 1 machines generally.

Thats good to hear.

I have an ancient Dyson Dual Cyclone in the garage. I cant recall it saying anything about it being a DA001.

It was made in Chippenham Wilts. It has the old Dyson logo. I found this machine in 1998 or 1999 one day after I finished school. I went back and asked for it. The machine stank and was full of dog hair. It has no switch or cord. The motor had fluid in it. The machine needs to be built from the ground up. It wont be economical to do so I didn't bother to do anything with it, I just put it in the shed.

That's really cool! I'm dying to find an early Dyson vac. I hate to ask, but you wouldn't happen to have any pics would ya? Naturally, given the rareness of these vacs, finding photos is really hard. It would be a great help.

Aw thanx, man! That's real kind of you :) You ever wanna see a pic of my vacs, just lemme know and I'll have one for you quick as I can :)
