Dry Cleaning

I want a machine to dry clean carpets, would an orbital machine or other floor polisher work?

I've been using an Oreck Orbitor with dry cleaning powders for years now. If you use Host, then you need an actual brush that's soft enough for carpets. Oreck sells a red and black one, and the black one is the softest. I've had good luck recently using Capture powder and the white bonnet to scrub it in. Once you have a machine, Host and Capture are cheap enough to experiment with and see what works best for your carpet. Capture has worked best with my medium pile carpet.

Host and Capture officially recommend you use a specialized machine with a spinning brush roll to clean the carpet, which you can rent from Host. Before you invest any big money into a floor machine, you might want to rent one of these first.

the oreck orbitor will work great... stay away from those sprinkle on damp powders,,they clog up vacs...instead.. dilute fabuloso, I put 16 oz too 2 gallons of water and spray on the carpet with a pump up garden sprayer.. its neutral ph and won;t leave any residue. that use the white bonnett on the oreck and spin away.. dirt gets absorbed on too the bonnett. works great and rugs dry quickly..

I'm not typically a fan of the bonnet cleaning method, as I feel it only cleans the very top of the fibers, not down even in the middle of the nap, let alone the bottom. And also, with this method you really need to be using a cleaning chemical that will encapsulate as it dries, basically it dries to a salt crystal type crust that vacuums away easily. The Oreck dry powder and the pre-spray work this way, and the powder works, in my opinion, MUCH better than the bonnet type cleaning. Using something like Fabuloso will leave a residue.

actually fabuloso is neutral ph, so it doesn't leave a residue. some jobs are better for vlm. if done correclty the bonnett method works great and zero wicking. ive been all about hwe for years...

I see Sebo sells a brush machine with its powder, but I don't know anything about it other than what I see on their website---sebo.us

The Sebo machine isn’t a great fit for every carpet type because of the loosely spaced bristles. The Host uses really densely packed bristles and has better coverage in the carpet fibers. Fabuloso is effective and ok to use if you don’t mind inhaling synthetic fragrances. My housekeeper won’t touch it and I won’t allow it in my house because “fragrance” is the 3rd ingredient listed on the label. Its consumer base is largely Hispanic and (according to my housekeeper) the heavy fragrance gives a connotation that the user is a lazy about cleaning and using the fragrance as a “cover up”.
