Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

So I finally got a Singer Golden Glide. Has cosmetic wear, but in good shape. Had to replace the cord, with what I had on hand. Have bags since I already have a couple of eureka Vibrabeat(ers). I made a foam band for the pre-motor filter from some materials I had on hand.

It has strong suction, motor sounds great. I already have a set of beige Eureka attachments which will do.

I have some paint issues I may touch up.

So, maybe NOW, I am done.

Singer Golden Glide

Here it is.

Still trying to decide if I should just polish it or redo the paint.

I do not have the correct crevice tool and the attachments may or may not be purely Singer.

I would like to have a scan of the user's manual for this vacuum. If wanted, I will exchange that for a scan of the Singer Power Compact. There is a scan on here, but it is very blurry.

So send me an email off here to let me know if you have the Singer scan.

Further.....

I realize the hose is a replacement. I am curious to know from someone who has a more accurate model:

Is the original cord gray, brown or what?

Do you have a picture of the correct on/off switch peddle/bar?

What was the color of the original attachments?

I've got one of those in a hassock that needs a new cord.

fantomfan57, one thing that I've found that works very well on old vacuum paint is #7 polishing compound. It used to be made by Dupont, but now just goes by #7. I found it locally at ACE Hardware. It is slightly abrasive, and will cut through scuffs, light scratches, and gets the dull haziness out of the paint so it shines again. All you need is a lot of elbow grease.

You might want to try it before you go to the trouble of repainting, it really works wonders. There are other waxes and things to shine up the paint also.

So Reggie, what color are your attachments?

And Cole, I think that is the way I will go. I will also experiment with re-gold/bronzing that big textured panel on the top. Looks really dingy.

Ran it today and started with the Vibra-groomer attachment...."I can't".

Any other suggestions community?

What a lovely Singer version of Eureka’s 1959 Mobile-Aire.

The tools should be a dark brown to match the base of the canister, and the hose should be a braided style in chocolate brown as well. Take a look at the link below that sends you to Doug Smith’s wonderful photo album of Singer vacuums:

..a million, Brian. This answers everything. Where in the world would I find the right hose. I also see the cord looks brown. I will re-do that for sure.

LOL Brian beat me to it. Yes the cord and the parts were all brown. Which model of Golden Glide is it? C2 C3 or C5?

The model C2 had a handgrip on the hose that was almost a right angle and a cardboard accessory kit. The floor brush was optional so there wasn't a spot in the kit for it.

The C3 changed to a 45 degree angle handgrip on the hose and the floor brush was included so the accessory kit would have had a place for it (Missing from the one I have).

The C5 did away with the cardboard accessory kit entirely and had a plastic tool holder that went on the top of the machine.

All 3 models had the option of an air driven power nozzle made by preco.

Glad to be of help - I’m always fascinated by the wide array of colours those Eureka tools came in: green, blue, brown, beige, white, black, even grey on the more recent Electrolux Oxygens. I even seem to remember that some of the Singer clones of Eurekas had a dark “grape” set of attachments - the colour palette for those Singers was kind of a “dusty rose” and “mauve/grape” styling.

The ID plate is missing....the two metal pins.. are there, but the plate is gone.

So I do not know the actual model number.

I'm not sure on the tool color, I'll have to open the casket and have a peek. I want to say they're darker brown than yours, but I also have the Singer version of the Rotomatic and I have played with that machine more, so its more readily available in my memory.

It's not like I am not aware, it's just these cool (to me) machines keep popping up.

I know of 3 other canisters I would like to have, Royal metal canister, Eureka Roto-matic and a Singer C1.

Now watch....they will pop up in the local thrift, CL or Ebay.

I really should start using them on a rotating basis.

Carboard tool caddy

I seem to remember someone on here used their old tool caddy as a template to reproduce more. That is a project I am planning using the Singer Power Compact caddy that came with my machine.

Originally I was going to repair mine, but I thought while I have it flattened out, I would cut out more.

Of course the graphics will not be there, but at least I could use the white side of the cardboard providing I find the right flat cardboard stock.

Re: the cardboard tool caddy. I wonder if there was a separate company making these for Eureka. Seems like a specialized skill to create these things out of cardboard. Anyone know if there was a subcontractor doing these located in Illinois somewhere?

The slot for the carpet nozzle seems a bit dangerous, no? Can’t imagine that slot staying small enough over the years to hold the nozzle in place.
