Dometic 245 canister/European Electrolux Z345

Here are some pics of my Dometic, a trade with Doug Smith. He had the canister and powerhead cord, and I had the powerhead. I recently saw a thread about the European z345, and thought I would share pics of mine.

Here in Canada they were badged Dometic 245.

I am also hoping that someone can help me with some parts, maybe some of our esteemed European memebers!

Here's a closer look at the powerhead. It's very quiet! The sticker says it was in the shop in 1993.

Did the European model have a powerhead option?

OK...

now the parts I need.

The front wheel is missing, I'd like a colour correct electrolux tool, and the motor is having issues!

I'm hoping to get a lead on the front wheel and maybe the dusting tool from one of our Euro members? Now the motor is going to be a real challenge! They still sell a 220v motor for the Euro Z345, looks just the same as whats inside mine. However I would need the 120v. I have phoned a dozen local shops, of course without succuss.

Any ideas?

Hey Guy:

The Electrolux 345 didnt have the electrical connection for the powerhead. To my knowledge the powerhead was made by Electrolux but in Germany or Sweden as the English Electroluxes didnt come out with one till much later.

As far as motors - try contacting Modern Vac in Edmonton. They still sell the European tank type Electroluxes under the Modern Vac name so they may have parts. Their machine uses the Eureka Powerhead though so no luck on that score. If that doesnt work you could also try Viking in the USA.

Good Advice

Doug. I tried Viking USA today. They told me that they don't manufacture vacuums. "Was there another name on the machine". So, I told her Husqvarna (knowing that was how they were badged in the US). She remained quiet for a short time...then hung up. I thought it was funny!

What are the issues with the motor? Electric motor shops can rebuild almost anything, and can even rewind the motor if it is shorted.

Hi Peter,

I believe the motor has dry or worn bearings. I've had it out to look at it, and it's a "sealed type" motor. I always thought that one would not be able to service this type of motor?

Who`d have thought a Lux 345 with a power head & cord!!!, they never did the power heads here and ours didnt have the slot for the power cord!!!

will have a check with the guys here, i`m sure we can get spares from dups or duds!!

Is the powerhead as quiet as the motor??

Hey Mike...

The powerhead is incredibly silent. It surprizes me everytime I use it. As for how quiet the main motor is...I imagine that mine is little noisy because of the bearing issue.

If you could help me find parts...that would be terrific. Feel free to e-mail me with any leads that you have.

Wow Own Brand

They really need to get a colour photo of their own model "Modern Vac"....where is this from?? its like the Lux 358T series we had here, although the lower diagram pics make it look wider like the large Lux JumboMatics!!

Does anyone have one, itching to see what colourway it is...very quiet & powerful, the best of Electrolux - IMHO!!!

I thought at first the word "Dometic" was a typo here, intended to be "Domestic." Then I read the postings and saw the photos. Odd name, really. Wonder if it was a "typo" from the start?!
