Doin' It...with LEWYT.

So, having cleared the floor area of the bedroom Lounge of about 25 assorted vacuum cleaners between the bed and the windows - they moved in to the main Attic - today I set about dusting away the cobwebs and dustbunnies.

I haven't been able to reach the piano roll scanner desk for almost 8 months. It was time for the Full Spring Clean.

I had decided this morning when conversing online with vacbear about Mysterious Mystiques and stuff, that I would use the Eureka Hatbox.
But, what with all the recent chatter about Big Wheels, Big Shoes and recently obtained Big Sunbeam Saucers I changed my mind. In the Spirit of Not starting a friendly and fishy Competition over Who's Saucervac is BIGGER than Whose I decided to break out the 1955 Big Wheel Lewyt Model 77.

Love them aluminum wands...

Kept a few favorites in the room, of course.

I set up the midi connections, fired up the Bose Speakers and laoded a couple hour's worth of 1940s Dinner & Dancing music midi files.

Before I could help it I was Dancing With Louis...

Um Davy, ya forgot to plug in the Lewyt Motorized Beater Swe

This one is the later version that has a regular Lewyt-0branded two-blade power plug that fits wall sockets. After the Electronic Disaster became known Lewyt equipped Big Wheel Electronics with a matching socket in the body below the hose inlet; you wrapped the cord around the hose - the cord is long enough plus slack.
Mine is blue hammertone and matches the 77.

You can even Do the Lewyt vacuum dance backwards!

It grooms the carpet well, too. Never bogs down as it uses an all gear drive - no belts.

someones having a bit tooo much fun, than again its no different from me slipping on a pair of heels to vacuum the living room lol. nice power head, was that produced before or after the Kenmore powerhead with the same cord setup? was that powerhead close to the rugmaster for Air-Way? it looks to be about the same
style.

The Lewyt Motorized Beater Sweeper debuted in 1957 with the Blue & Charcoal Gray Lewyt Model 107, operating on 12-14 VAC (I think, ir was it DC?) from a secondary field coil on the 120 VAC motor windings.

After the trickle of unforeseen electrocutions events became a landslide the brush motor was replaced with a regular 120 VAC motor with a toothed shaft running a gear train to the brushroll and a separate plug-in-the-wall type cord. This one came from a Big Wheel that has a matching socket on the vacuum body.

The other Big Wheels that came with the PN are the green 1958 Model 111 with gold anodized wands and the Blue & Silver/Gray 1961 121 with copper clad wands. I don't know when the switch was made but when the dust settled from the 1962 Law Suit, Lewyt was bankrupt and the Name & assets bought up by Shetland. The Models 121 and all silvergray pn-less 120 were the last Big Wheels made by the Long Island City, NY Lewyt Corporation.

Didn't Lewyt ground one of the leads,

and therefore when it shorted out, the full 110 volts was energized through the hose handle right? That just spells disaster from the outset. No doubt to make the conections between hose, wands and power nozzle quick, and with no cumbersome cords etc. Too bad - perhaps they would have still been around.

I did enter myself in a "twist" contest once. I wasn't aware it was a contest 'til there were only two couples left. I quit saying "to hell with this - my sides hurt". As soon as I sat down they announced that the other couple had won! Can't remember what the prize was....

I don't precisely remember who I got these Xeroxs from, tho I expect it was Doug Smith in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan - Canada's Mr All Things Lewyt.
