I am planning to ship The Eureka Boss sometime this week. Does the handle come in 2 parts? If not, I hope I don't end up playing $50 for shipping. If it's just 1 part, I might need a very long package.

Hi Phoenixman,

After the late 1960's, most Eureka soft bag, fan-first uprights came shipped with the handle broken down into two parts. The boxes were nice compact cube shaped containers, and the two parts of the handle were packed on a diagonal in the cube.

The answer to your question depends on whether the handle is metal or plastic. The metal handles came with a nice shiny metal bolt assembly that could easily be taken apart for shipping. If the Eureka you bought had a plastic handle, you assembled the two pieces using plastic fasteners that you snapped into place once and for all. The only way you can dissassemble these plastic handles is by breaking the plastic fasteners and getting new ones to reassemble the handle after shipping.

Hope this helps!

I also wonder how much shipping will cost if I have to use a huge long box for it. I hope it's not expensive. I've seen vacuums getting shipped for $20. I hope I don't have to pay over $20. I also want the cheapest way ever to ship.

If you can't separate the two parts of the handle, it might be best and cheaper to ship 2 separate boxes: one for the long handle alone and another for the base and bag and everything else. Most Eureka handles, both plastic and metal, are attached to the base with a removable bolt. So you can always separate the long handle from the base and put that in a separate box alone. UPS or Fedex must have a nice long flat box to ship things like golf clubs, so that may also work for your vacuum handle. By shipping it in a separate box, you are minimizing any danger of damage to either part of the vac.

Plastic Handles Do Not Come Apart

I've shipped numerous F&G Eurekas with plastic handles. If I remember correctly, the complete handle assembly is a little over 30 inches long, but it's possible to ship with a slightly smaller box if you place it in at a diagonal.  Shipping will come to close to $35 if you are sending it across the country, possibly less if the buyer is closer. Did you sell it on eBay? They give you a slight discount if you print a shipping label on their website. Fedex Smartpost tends to be the cheapest service with large boxes.
