I'm trying to buy an old Kirby from someone in Bellevue, WA, and get them to ship it to me in SoCal. However, this person is clueless and apparently unable to remove the handle and box the machine up for USPS.

Are there any Vacuumland members who live nearby and would be willing to grab it for me and ship it? I can PayPal you the money in advance.

Maybe I can return the favor if you find something in the OC area of SoCal that you want. Here's an opportunity to expand your Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Karma!

Thanks!

I have found myself in a (somewhat) similar situation in the past.

I actually ended up shipping the shipping box and packing materials to the customer, and sent them a link to youtube with her model being taken apart. It was just a video I happen to find which someone else posted, but it helped.

Could be worth a shot if the seller is motivated at all.

Good luck getting your vac ~

Mission accomplished!

She finally got back to me and now I have my first DS 50 on the way. Not bad for $99, huh? Apparently, the original owner sent it to Kirby for a rebuild in August, 2008. They got it back, used it a couple of times, stuck it in a closet, and then . . . . . . died.

It was picked up at the estate sale and then sold to me. Finally!

I think I may be done collecting now that I have my Big 3: barely used Kirby Legend II (courtesy of Fred Nelson), G6 w/VacLab transmission mod (a free-bee from a buddy of mine who had it sitting in his garage for years and wanted it gone), and now this DS 50, unmolested since it got some Kirby love back at the factory.

My plan is to build a kit for converting DS 50s and 80s to F-style hepa bags and maybe let people buy it through the Kirby Needs Ebay store. I'll post it on Vacuumland when it's finished.

I still have my brand new Simplicity Symmetry Ultra Premium and the Panasonic MC-661 I'm almost finished restoring. I've gone full-Kirby now, so I might be willing to sell my bypass machines at some point, if anyone is interested.

I remember when I ordered my G5 Kirby that the seller knew how to take the handle off - but in the wrong way. He actually unscrewed the entire handle from the vacuum instead of just pushing the button to release the bracket. lol

Nice Ted!!

I forgot how darn nice that one was from the photos you sent me ! Yours looks as good as my DS 50 now to dog gone it Haha!
