Does anyone have a Kirby G5 Powerhouse??

I have my G5 from the Henry Company that is dead now. Where the transmission is you could see sparks, really bad, and it would start smoking. Now it won't turn on at all. I really don't want to mess with fixing it or anything as I do not have time. So I was curious if anyone has a G5 Powerhouse, I think it is called, and a front carpet nozzle they would be willing to trade or sell? This is one of my favorite Kirbys, and I would like to make it a good daily driver. Thanks, Chase

Depending on how long it was ran that way...

...it may be as simple as the carbon brushes.
...or it could be more serious, carbons & armature, field or power switch.

if it started sparking really bad to the point that it was smoking I would say that the armature needs to be replaced and also the brushes. my guess is that probably some grit had gotten into the motor and scratched up the commutator badly to a point that the copper had a split in it. which caused the sparks. once that happens your carbon brushes are at risk of being damaged or filed completely down

the same thing happened to my heritage, so I rebuilt it with new parts

Time to send to Kirby rebuild

Are you the original owner?
Even if you aren't, it may still be worth a call to them to see what the cost would be.

It would be just like having a brand new Kirby again.

No, I am not the original purchaser, but I didn't even think about sending it off for rebuild for that high price. That is a definite possibility.

Best to replace the motor

Hi I have been rebuilding kirby's for over 10 years,once the motor starts sparking the armature is shorted out. I have found that just replacing the armature is not enough, the field is often also damaged so at this point it is more cost affective to replace the motor. Your problem is more common with the G series models then the earlier models.
Hope my advice is helpful I have Kirby G series motors for sale for $40.00 in my store they have all been disassembled cleaned and tested I am a ebay top rated power seller with outstanding feedback.
