Does anybody have a Grey Royal shake out bag?

I purchased a Royal commercial Upright model 1030. The shake out bag has 3 tiny holes in a group. I was wondering if anybody had one they were looking to sell? I dont want generic and I really dont like the orange ones and would like to keep the original look. Either that or could somebody give me tips on how to put a patch on the inside?

The Holes

They look like moth holes. Would it be very difficult to put in a patch?

Beleive original grey Royal dump bags are still available through Royal dealers.A dealer just might have such a bag in his stock.The new Orange bags are for use with the "B" disposable bags.Have several new commercial Royals that use these bags.Have seen the commercial Royals sold with the grey dump bag as an option.If the rest of your bag is intact and sturdy-you could salvage your bag by patching the holes with a hot iron and peices of iron on patch material.I have fixed bags with small holes in that manner.

I have not seen a new grey shake out bag anywhere. They come in orange shake outs now as far as I cant find. Would the iron-on patch work with the iron on the other side of the fabric? (patch on the inside) I've never used a patch before tbh.

Didn't realize Royal went to orange for the dump bags-try the Royal dealers anyway-they might have a grey dump bag in their stock.If you can turn the bag inside out,clean it really well-the iron on patch should work-and you won't be able to see it.From the picture-looks like the holes at at the base of the bag-intake area.

Rex, unfotrtunately there are no royal dealers near me. Thats probably why I never find royals. Would it be ok if I put the bag in the washer before patching it? I know you should hand wash older bags but I think the heavy duty commercial bag would be fine.

I would not want to run the bag thru the washer-you might wash off the logos and damage it further.I vacuum out my dump bags with another vacuum-use a canister vac with an empty bag in it so you get max power from the canister-the fine dust vacuumed out of the dump bag will possibly clog the canister bag unless its multilayer or Filtrete.Hand wash would probably OK.Does your bag have the rigid plastic inner fill tube?If it does-don't run it thru the washer-hand wash.The fill tube would get damaged.I use the dust brush or the upolstry tool on the canister for cleaning bags.

You realy dont think its machine washable? the bag is from 2001 and its for a commercial vacuum, youd think it would be made of durable material. as for the plastic fill tube, I'm not sure because I havent actually recieved the machine yet, I'm just planning ahead

When you get the Royal vacuum-then you can determine wether the bag can be washed in a washer.The two Royal grey dump bags I have-one has the rigid plastic fill tube-the other has a cloth fill tube-the cloth tube is sewn to the inner top of the bag-making it impossible to turn it wrong side out for vacuuming.It can be vacuumed-just harder.At this stage would be concerned that the washer might wash off the bag logo.Hand washing shouldn't wash out the logo.

I believe the newer shake out bags have the plastic fill tube. I remember people mentioning that you could still use a Type A bag in a shake out, you just have to lift it out the top. We will see when it arrives, I cant wait!

Actually the Royal bag that would fit in the plastic tube dump bag is the "B" bag.I have tried this-the filled bag is VERY difficult to get out of the top of the dump bag.If you go that route-you can't let the paper bag get too full-it could rip as you pull it from the top.The zipper bags are best for use with the disposable bags.Yes,the newer Royal dump bags have the same rigid plastic fill tube as the zippered ones.If your machine has the cloth fill tube(unlikely since its a late machine)you can't use the disposable bags.Maybe someone who is really up on Royals can tell us when Royal started using the rigid fill tube in the dump bags.

do you think they improved the filtration of shake out bags over the years? I know shake out bags all leak some dust. my really old shake outs give out a puff of dust if you bump them while its running, but the sanitaires at work seem to do a pretty good job of keeping the dust in.

Yes,think the filtration of reusable bags has been improved-esp when Kirby was using their dump bags.They were made of a thicker material with closer weave to trap the fine dust.But dump bags will have a limited life if they are used a lot or if dirt is stored in them.When used commercially-vac makers recommend replacing the dump bag every year.For home use you can improve bag life by emptying it after EACH major use-don't store dirt in the bag.And this will cut down on odors and "poofing" dust when the vac is started.All in all best to use disposable bags-in most office cleaning the disposable bags are used-the dump bags are used in halls,and building entrances where most of the dirt comes in.-This would fill a disposable bag too quickly.

I actually like shake out bags in some cases. Its kind of like a bagless to me,I like to see what I picked up haha

Oh yes,see what you mean-all of us vacuum cleaner guys like to see what has been picked up-yes,I do disposable bag "autopsys" to see what I picked up.
