I have a question. Do geared belts actually have more torque than those stretch belts? My thought is that the teeth on the belt actually help brush roll spin faster on carpet.
If you are referring to the belts with the cogged teeth on the inner side, and these cogs mesh with cogs on the brushroll and the PTO pulley, then they may transmit more torque as the cogs eliminate slippage under heavy loads or if they stretch out slightly.
These designs are used in automotive valve timing systems as slippage is not acceptable.
After doing a recent belt change on a Lexus LX470, I will say, cogged vacuum belts are the way to go. They don’t work, however, when the belt has a twist as in say…a Kirby.
