Hello, everyone! I was hoping that someone could give me some tips on how to replace the power cord on my Electrolux Discovery Plus model 1572e. I needed a good vacuum for my carpet, and woefully made the mistake of buying a cheap Dirt Devil upright. It is so small and crappy that I thought it was a toy. It was a waste of money. I wanted a nice 80's Electrolux upright with tools, because I know that they will last. I got one from Facebook Marketplace for $15.00 with tools. It runs great, but someone did in the past replace the power cord by cutting off the old one and then grafting a new one into its place. I want to replace this with a NOS cord, but I cannot figure out how to remove the old cord from its socket. I'm handy with tools, so I took it apart, and still couldn't figure out how to remove it. I would sincerely appreciate it if someone could explain how to do this. This model didn't have the external socket for the PowerMate. Mine came with the tools, but they are a hodgepodge, with some not being for this machine, and some seeming to be aftermarket ones. My next goal is to find an original set of tools for this. My thanks to anyone who came help me with this.

It just pulls out...

The cord on the Discovery II and Discovery Plus just pulls out. It has a couple of little flanges on the sides to hold it in place, so you just have to wiggle it back and forth until it releases. The new cord will just push in the same way.

Although that machine was not equipped from the factory to accommodate a SideKick, you can get an adapter kit for it. The kit comes with a trapezoidal piece that attaches where the cord plugs into the machine and provides an extra female switched socket to power the SideKick. The kit also comes with a metal-tipped handle for your existing hose, a power cord and bands to attach it to the hose. I found a kit for my Discovery II on eBay for about $13.

My Thanks to All!

Thank you both for the tips on how to get my cord out. I was afraid to pull too hard before, because I wasn't sure that it came out that way. This time, I pulled hard, and I do mean hard, with much wiggling around, and it FINALLY came out. Now I can replace it with a new cord.

I will look for the adapter, and add the socket for a Sidekick. If anyone out there has a set of genuine Electrolux attachments for this, including the Sidekick, and they are reasonable, I would like to buy them. The ones I have been looking at on Ebay are outrageous. Or are they hard to find? I do have attachments, and while they do look very close to the originals, I can tell that they aren't original because they do not have "Electrolux" written on them. Thankfully, the brush roller and belt are great, as is the motor and body. I would love to post pictures, but I'm one of the very few people who doesn't have a smartphone!

Again, thank you very much!
