You would need the paper bag adaptor kit for these to start with. If you get one that can be washed or blown-out and reused, you might be able to. I think they make HEPA bags that can be, or even if they can't, just be lightly rinsed and then dried. Depending on use, it might only have to be done every few months per year, not so bad. It would have to be a custom job in any case.

Paper bag adaptor?

The ultra had the G bag tube built onto them.
Their hose suction was terrible due to design. The front of the nozzle has a cover which you rotate down to cover the brushroll chamber there was a little black door under the hose which was connected to the cover which would open when the cover was rotated. It was plastic on plastic so it really offered no seal. I never did measure the hose's performance but just going off of feeling it was pretty pitiful.

Dirt Devil Handheld

We had these in the UK and they were quite good and were really common in the 90s. They stopped selling them over hear in about 2007. Its a shame because they were decent and Corded handhelds are getting really hard to find over here now especially with a rotating brush. Next best thing is the Hoover Jovis+ corded handheld which is 49.99 and also pretty decent but its not bagged. If you could get the dirt devils over here I would buy one. I dont know why you can still get them in America though maybe they are more popular with you guys. I miss them.

Hmm

I recently found the 3 best hand vacuums.
Riccar squire (7amp). Dirt devil ultra platinum edition,Iona formerly Regina vacuums, Iona dirt raider.
The are awesome. I'd recommend purple shark cordless it's really good.
The new dirt devil 2 I believe has power but it doesn't pick up it flings across the carpet.

On top of what I have mentioned I have a pa geier 1930 hand vac, a 1930s premier hand vac, 2 or 3 2950s royals. I think one may be electro hygiene. I have about 3-5 80s eArly 90s dirt devil, the one mentioned in the thread, platinum royal, a Douglas busy bee in original box it's sister vacuum to Kirby vacuette, the Craftsman hand vac similar to Kirby, 2 eureka hand vacs.
They all do a good job but Iona dirt raider, riccar and royal platinum take the cake.
I also have eureka Corvette hand vac.
What's cool is nice hand vacs don't kill you with price and don't take up much space.

I like the Regina Dirt Magnet

and the first Electrolux hand vac which was also the same thing. They are very powerful but flimsy. The bag could have also been thicker. Both models have an aggressive brush roll. The original Royal and Dirt Devil 2 amp models barely have any power. But work for certain things. The ultra that I had was very loud and barely had any tool suction. Which was probably due to the plastic on plastic mentioned above.

I've been using my 2 Royal Prince 501's and my Dirt Devil hand vacs....found them all working nicely....aka not scattering small or larger pieces of 'stuff'. I mostly use these on microfiber covered sofa and love seats.
