Dirt Devil Plus 8 gallon wet/dry vac

I just picked this up yesterday from my local thrift store for $26. It works overall, just missing the attachments and the primary filter. It did however came with a sleeve foam filter. Needs to get cleaned up and I'll be fitting a Shop Vac dry filter for this since they don't make filters for these anymore. I'll also see if I can fit a disposable bag on this as well, I think it will work. I've been meaning to get another wet/dry vac for a while now, I'd like one that I can just use for my wood shop so I wouldn't have to haul over my other wet/dry vac. And I'm really impressed with the performance of this, it sounds just like my grandfather's Hoover Supreme 12.5 gallon wet/dry vac. I wouldn't be surprised if the motors are the same since I have yet to take this thing apart. Anyways, I wanted to share this here because I don't see many pictures or mentions about these.

Congrats on your find !! Shopvac cartridge filter and bag should be fine have fun nice looking machine .

A Shop Vac cartridge filter could fit but I'd need a thing to screw the filter on to make it work. It's supposed to look like this down below. And I also don't have a screw for it either. So I have no choice but to use a Shop Vac dry filter which I'd have no problem with. I'm not expected to use this to pick up wood dust by itself, I'm getting a cyclonic separator to connect with this wet/dry vac so I don't have to plug it up as much. That's what I'd recommend to use if you're picking up not only wood dust but also drywall dust and wood burning ash.

Filter

I used a shop vac branded one in it. I just cut away some of the bottom of the retainer to allow a wide washer to fit I figured it would be better to distribute the pressure. I then obtained a knob from a hardware store that fit the nut on the filter cage. As for bags you can get them on there but the inlet is rather shallow I'm not confident that it would stay on

Do you have a picture of how you made that retainer? Also what did the knob from ACE looked like? I got plenty of used cartridge filters that I wouldn't mind fitting on this. And what bag was it that had trouble holding? Was it a Shop Vac one?

I have an NOS sealed box DD filter as in reply 2,pic 2 that was ordered years ago for customer that did not buy.It is one of 100s of parts I am sorting through upstairs at old shop this winter as time and weather allows that need to be gone in spring/summer.If interested--

I am not sure if these take bags, but if you put a bag in a Shop-Vac, the filter being exposed on the bottom isn't so much to panic about. When you are doing dry pickup with no bag at all that's when you need the filter all sealed up.


Wow, now that is a strange unit. I ever knew Dirt Devil made shop vac style vacs.

On the Shop Vacs that I've used before, the bags not only plugged up real fast but also they leaked out alot of dust that the filters ended up getting clogged. So that's why I'm getting a separator for this. To prevent from not only clogging as much but also to prevent from burning the motor up as well. It's definitely nice to have extra protection for your Shop Vac so it can last longer.

Nice! I remember we carried that one (though it may have been black) as well as the Eureka wet/dry vacuum at the shop. Only sold one or two a year. Most people would go and get a Shop Vac from Ace Hardware, or a Craftsman from Sears, or later on a Ridgid from Home Depot...which was an Emerson product like Craftsman.

For as cheap and utilitarian as most wet/dry vacs are, they are still interesting. The older, the better, for me.

I could've gotten something more modern for my shop or at least something that I can still get parts for. But I'm not really into wet dry vacs and I don't even expect to use this all that much so it'll probably last for the rest of my lifetime. Plus it's cool to have something that's more rare and I just couldn't let this go from the thrift store

Yeah that's a unique little vacuum there. The big clunky handle makes it easy to grab when working in the garage too.
