Model number
Another thing I've noticed with this variation is the model number! These style uprights were commonly listed as the 7200 series, my own being a good example. It has the skinny style handle, with the edger. It's a 92 model. It has a different color scheme on it so it's specified with a 11 after the 72 in the model number. Traditionally with earlier Dirt Devil Uprights and things more expensive than the Hand and Broom Vac, the higher the first number in the model number, the more deluxe it gets. An example would be the 3200 is the Stick Vac, 5200 is the Lite with a brushroll, 6200 is the Upright Plus with on board tools, 7200 is the Upright style that's hard cased and has "better filtration". This really puts off my database of Dirt Devils, and how I thought there was a pattern. At the time this Emerald Collection was made, I was only aware of the 7200 being the highest series.
I think a collector that was a past Dirt Devil dealer from the beginning would have a pretty good feel for the company, and even at that they would have to pay very close attention to store specials and specific colors and things. I found out today that the Upright that I have was a Costco special. There was a model labeled as heavy duty without a headlight, and my model with a headlight. On OfferUp right now, there is the exact same one I have, with the headlight and correct colors, though it doesn't have the edger like mine. And there was also the white version made for Walmart, and the white version made for some sort of anniversary. I'm aware of about 6 different model numbers of only one year of the Ultra MVP, which doesn't include the Magnum MVP either. This is just showing how many variants of Dirt Devil cleaners were made, and why I absolutely go crazy for them.
The hunt continues!
Thanks, Garrett
