I just recently purchased an old 103 at the thrift store and sometimes the bag flies off when inflated, this doesnt happen all the time. Does anyone else who has a 103 have this happen to them? This hand vac doesnt have a twist and lock for the bag like an ultra so is this common on the older models?

I have never had this problem!! Maybe the rubber gasket on your cloth bag is worn out??

Do you have an installed adapter and are you using Type G hand vac bags as well? Or are you just using the red Dirt Devil bag?

Make sure that the red bag is pulled onto the unit as far as it can possibly go all the way around-- up to the base where the handle is. The rubber gasket should seal completely and it should take a little effort for gasket to be worked on.

Dirt Devil changed the pattern on the bags over time, but the concept was the same for numerous models of their hand vac line and I have never heard of your problem before!!!

I am not currently using any type g bags just the red cloth bag. I have set the bag tight and am using it gaian soon. I would hope that the gasket is not worn bu ebay has a few easy replacements if it is. It does take some effort to get it just right, so it could be just that. Hopefully I get to find out next time. Thanks for the help.

I assume you have done this. But clean the gasket well-- both sides including where it attaches to the fabric. Also clean the Dirt Devil housing well--- maybe a former user put some sort of grease or oil there to ease the bag on???

Like I said upon installing the bag, turn the vacuum in your hand to make sure the gasket is pulled as far up onto the vacuum as it will go--- for the entire circumference.

There are lots of Dirt Devil hand vacs that come up on in thrift stores. There are also many collectors that have these units and likewise some that may be willing to part with a spare bag??

I have a green Dirt Devil bag that is a spare.

Fixed the problem!

When I washed the bag the gasket had accidentally been flipped inside out. Now the bag feels much tighter.
