A few pictures of the new Dyson Digital Slim - I ordered this from dyson.co.uk on Sunday evening, and it was delivered (free shipping!) on Wednesday morning...

Carbon Fibre Motorhead - two rows of stiff nylon bristles for carpet-cleaning, and 2 rows of anti-static pure carbon fibre filaments, for hard floors.

Pivoting V-Ball design... a rolling surface is always in contact with the floor, regardless of the angle of the wand...

The amount of dirt isn't entirely surprising - in a house of 6 people, a cat, a dog, and a constant stream of visitors, plenty of dirt is trodden in and around each day. But I was impressed how much fine dirt, sand and grit it pulled up.

Looks really interesting Jack. How long does the battery last? Wondering what one would cost here in the states? Those results are really amazing.

Terry

Hi Terry -

the runtimes are as follows:

Floor cleaning on normal power - 13 mins
Floor cleaning on max power - 6 mins

Handhand on normal power - 15 mins
Handheld on max power - 6 mins

The dirt in the photos above was vacuumed up with the cleaner set to normal.

The lithium-ion battery recharges fully in 3.5 hours.

In the UK, the Digital Slim is priced £199.99, which puts it directly in line with the Vax LiFE Unplugged (or LiFE Multipack, if you buy from the Vax website). In the US, it sells for $299.99.

It uses the same Root Cyclone technology as Dyson's full-size machines, as well as Dyson's 104,000rpm Digital Motor V2:

Nice!

The results are pretty impressive Jack :) I would like one but as you know Dyson products are a bit on the spendy side here in the USA. I'll take a stab at my MSRP estimate... $379.

Jack thanks for the information! I think that would really be a handy little unit to have. Hopefully one day they will come down a bit in price here in the states. Terry

$299.99 in USA, not yet available in Canada

That is very cool and I love the Pivoting V-Ball design but I just don't want to deal with battery packs and charging times.
If this Digital Slim can have a 22VDC motorhead why not on the north american DC26? Oh, the frustration of it all. :-)

So, what is the construction of the wand that carries the 22 volts to the motorhead?

Dave, jonesin' for the Motorheaded DC26, dammit.

I know, I know, I'm whining...but the little DC28 is sooooo cute and tiny.

Gotta say - very impressed with the way the brushroll is serviced. Makes for a more compact width.

Thanks Jack!

As much as I love my Vax LiFE, one of the minor annoyances is having to clean the brushbar when it becomes entangled with hair. Small diameter brushrolls are particularly prone to this. Although most can be trimmed with scissors, it's awkward to get at, and sometimes you have to remove the soleplate (7 scews), to get full access.

With the Dyson head, you just take a coin from your pocket (and I'll save you the trouble of quipping, 'If you have any change left after buying a Dyson...!), twist the endcap, and pull out the brushroll. And the brushroll housing is clear, so you can see when this needs doing.

Jack, that is a very interesting little machine! Its also a suprising amount of dirt to be picked up by such a small vacuum, very impressive! Im curious to know more about the carbon fiber brush roll. Its probably my total lack of knowledge amout the material, but when I first saw it all I could think of was the carbon brush dust emitted from a vacuum motor and would the brush roll strips wear away quickly. Anyway, Id love to hear more info about it especially since you seem to be our Dyson expert on this site. I've enjoyed your many posts about Dyson and have seen many of your youtube videos, all of which are great!

Very cool!

I think these vacuums are a great idea. When I still had my dc24 (mini ball upright), I used to attach the wand from that to the DC16 hand vac (it fit!), and use it to get cobwebs and clean along baseboards. It worked great! Now compared to their original DC16, their new hand vacs have a much longer battery life, twice as much suction, better filtration, a digital motor, a handy wand, and what looks to be a very good powerhead for a "stick" type vacuum. It looks versatile and fun!

Panasonic used to sell a product like this called the A.R.M., which I really liked. It had a similar setup where the motor was near the handle, and it had a wide assortment of tools (including wands and nice bare-floor tool), for all types of cleaning. While working at the vac shop, the few customers I met that owned one LOVED them, and still used them 20 years later. Now today Dyson is the only company that has a product like this, and it looks spot-on!

How does it do on the bare floors? Do the carbon fiber brushes live up to the hype? Thanks for posting the great pics!
