Dictates of vacuuming

Has anyone laid down the dictates of proper vacuuming- like perhaps Martha Stewart or HGTV ? I’ve attached photos of an old booklet that suggests a light daily once over plus a thorough weekly vacuuming. I vacuum weekly, maybe xtra if I’m having company. I’ve never done it daily! Does anyone here vacuum daily?

I USED to have a 'schedule'

but, that's long gone. When I'm in the middle of my renovations, etc...the Hoover goes a LOT. If company comes, OR after a dinner/party, the Hoover goes. Sometimes, I get 'in the mood' and start at the front door, and continue to the back of the house. It takes a while. Vacuuming this house from top to bottom daily isn't needed. There are rooms that rarely get used. I DO have a 'quickbroom' at the ready by the litter boxes.

With most people's HVAC systems having HEPA filtration now and all that, or if you have a house new enough to have filters on the air vent grilles themselves - the amount of dust of days gone by is pretty greatly reduced.

I try to vacuum on Sundays but I don;t always remember. Until I get some of the excess junk out of my house, I can't really use the vacuum on a hose and dust with the brush either. I usually try and tackle one room a day (or a week) and fully clean it. Clear everything out to an empty room, and then start from the ceiling down to the floor and make many sweeps over the room repeating the same ceiling to floor pattern with vacuum, polish and dust rag, and then fixing anything that is broken or needs to be moved in the room. Put all the stuff back into place (or re-arrange the furniture). Then after that just vacuuming the floor is all I have to do until I see a significant dust accumulation.

A friend of mines mother vacuumed and dusted the downstairs daily, not sure about Sunday's.....or the


upstairs.......

Hoover had a brochure in the 1940's called Making the best use of your Hoover cleaning equipment that covers streamlining your cleaning plan, Hoover cleaning tools for thorough and easy dusting, getting rid of the dirt, maintaining cleaning efficiency, etc.

Hoover also had another brochure called House cleaning and home management manual, copyrights 1944, 1945 and 1948. It covers Planning Housework Schedules, Planning House Cleaning Schedules, Selection of Cleaning Equipment and Supplies, Care and Storage of Cleaning Equipment, Methods for Special Cleaning Jobs and the last chapter covers Formulas

So, YES someone has published info on cleaning

My sister does the weekday vacuuming and usually every other day or so. I do the deep weekend vacuuming when I do the major housework. I also tend to do the holiday cleaning and season cleaning. When I'm doing those you can imagine the house getting torn apart and every inch of this house getting vacuumed.

I vacuum often....probably every other day...;.but only a part of the house....then the next day or one after that...will do another part of the house too. I like the cleanliness....but I really enjoy exercising the different vacs that I have....and throughly enjoy their differences. weird to most people outside of this group haha!

In the Hoover Home Management Manuals, published after World War II, they specifically talked about the speed that you should be using to push the machine. One foot per second forward, six inches per second on the back stroke. I have found this to be good advice.

Personally, with two huge Border Collies, I run the sweeper over just the main part of the family room rug where I can see the dog hair (and leaves and grass from going in and out of the house all day) at least once a day. As much as I despise and hate the Tacony company, I will admit that the battery upright Maytag M600 does a good job of daily sweeping. If it ever stops, I'm getting a battery Oreck to do that job.

On Sunday, I do the main Sweeping. Out comes a vintage canister and the Perfect Battery Power Nozzle (I used a 1951 Lewyt last week), and the whole room gets swept including under the sofa cushions.

My ex-wife wanted the house vacuumed daily; of course, her ideal was that the house would always look like it was staged by a realtor and nobody actually lived there. It was one of the many unrealistic expectations that doomed our relationship.

I vacuum ususally daily

We have an American Eskimo dog, and a Siamese Cat.   I buy bags by the case.


 


I have mentioned before,  I was telling a co-worker that I was cleaning carpets that weekend, Hoover spin-vac. 


 


She asked me "How often do you clean carpets."


I told her "about once a quarter, every three or four months."


"Oh" she said "That's about how often I vacuum."


 


Another co-worker said, "I last vacuumed on Christmas eve."  It was the July 4th weekend that weekend.

oh my god thats a long time.

@human my neighbor was a real neat freak like that. Her house was kept immaculately clean. I don't think she ever slept, just cleaned 24/7. lol There was nothing ever out of place, and it honestly looked like a house on a HGTV renovation show after they finished the renovation before the family moved back in. It looked like nobody lived there, and she was just a maid.
