Dial-A-Matic Suction Question

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering how the Hoover Dial-A-Matics typically perform? In one of the other threads, there's a picture of the motor that was in the Dial-A-Matic, and it looks huge. Are the motors really that big or is it just the angle of the picture. It took me by surprize because most bypass motor vacuums are fine, but nothing to write home about. Do they clean better than say a Hoover Windtunnel or Riccar's Fuller Brush? It certainly doesn't seem to me that most bypass vacuum motors are that big are they?

No, the motors are huge and well made, and they are two stage, but Windtunnels are more powerful. Just about any modern clean air upright has more suction power. DAMs do have good airflow, so they do clean pretty well, but they don't pull close to the level of vacuum.

Actually,

I have been using my Dial-A-Matic for over a week and it works pretty well. Not as well as the Hoover Convertible for carpets but the Dial-A-Matic is a nice all around vacuum. In my opinion the beater bars do a make a difference compared to other clean air uprights. It would be nice if it sucked from the center and not to one side.
