Deep fat fryer

I was watching a video awhile back on YouTube of a Burger King from 1988. I thought it was interesting that the deep fryers they were using had automatic basket lifts on them. I haven’t noticed any fast food restaurants around here including McDonalds, Wendy’s or Burger King having basket lift equipped fryers.

I did see a video of a touch screen Frymaster fryer for Taco Bell that did have basket lifts, so I assume Taco Bell may have them. But other than that, never seen any.

I remember back when I was in school, and schools back then served French fries and possibly other items made in the fryer, that both my middle and high schools had basket lift fryers. One in the middle school kitchen and there in my high school.

I have also noticed them in hospital cafeterias as well.

Many years ago, I ate lunch at the McDonald's in the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, OH, It's French Fry operation was completely automated. All the employees did was dump frozen fries into waiting hoppers, which the machine then moved to the fry baskets for cooking, and automatically removed when done. Once the excess grease had dripped off, they were automatically dumped into the packaging area.

Wow. I worked at KFC when I was a teenager.
Everything was made in some sort of deep fryer, with the obvious exception of stuff like mashed potatoes, and nothing was automated.
Actually, when I got transferred to a new, larger location, they had a big cooker for the "Original Recipe", that made something like six racks of chicken at once. That was motorized, for the dropping and lifting. But, I don't remember if it did it automatically, or if you had to press a button. I believe they called the cooker the "10-3".
