Hi there,

I'm having a tough time figuring out this one. I purchased a brand new CWP brushroll for my Decade 80 on Saturday. In short, I love it, the machine is so quiet and smooth; HOWEVER, I am tearing through the belts—and I mean TEARING. I can't keep a belt on for more than 10 minutes of use without popping it. Brand new pack of Type 48 belts, gone.

I understand there is a chance this brushroll will go through belts quicker since it has more rows of brushes, but I have not heard of anyone consistently tearing through belts every 10 minutes. I have your standard medium-pile carpet from the late 90s. I typically use "Norm" pile height setting. Here are my questions:

1. Is this a break-in period for the brushroll? I will mention, it rotates easier than the genuine brushroll does by hand.

2. Could there be something wrong with the Decade 80 itself? The reason I ask is because the first belt popped when I was using attachments; no strain on the brushroll, belt, or motor. Another reason I ask is because when I used the genuine brushroll, it too seemed to wear belts fairly quickly. Granted it never broke any belts, it did seem to crack them pretty significantly after only a couple of uses.

I believe the Decade 80 is from 1984. It has Power Surge (6 Amp motor)—motor doesn't sound bogged at all when using CWP.
Model U4385.

belts

you must have gotten a bad Bach of belts. I have had a few brake like this a few years back. try using a gen Hoover belt part # 44783 this is a better made belt.

hope this helps

genuine belts

ill second that. if theyre not actual hoover belts theyre crap. i tried generic belts and it broke within 5 minutes. i get my genuine hoover convertible belts off ebay in blocks of 10. generic belts are crap.

To quote your owner's manual, I'll wait while you o

your copies, which should be found in the top right drawer of your desk, along with your other manuals. lol. "It imperative that you use only genuine Hoover replacement parts". They really weren't kidding, lol. I know some belts are better than others. I've even had genuine snap as well.
