Dead versamatic

My much loved work vacuum, a Windsor Versamatic VSE 1/3 has seem to have met an untimely death. I plugged it into what turned out to be a bad plug...the whole thing sparked and started smoking, and now my versamatic won't turn on. I've been through it all and the wiring and boards appear to be intact, couldn't see any obvious damage or burnt wires. Any advice on what to test or replace would be much appreciated!

I would start with the power cord and switches and work your way from there. Sometimes it is the easiest thing which could be the cord.

On mine..

it was the plug.

My vo tech school's newer Versamatic had a huge short in the plug. It's a wierd and large plug. It started smoking the first five seconds of opperation.
