dead henry HVR 200-22, repair help?

hi all ive got hold of a henry HVR 200-22 hoover and its dead. its the push down on /off button model with the hi/lo rocker switch. been trawling the net regarding how to fix and test but not too sure with the wiring? could someone give me some pointers on bypassing the switch and the hi/lo switch please. i have attached a diagram of the wiring. cheers

If it's dead then it could be any number of factors. The problem is, from the way you have written your message you don't sound like you are familiar with electrical testing. This is not a problem and I am not judging you, but I can tell you it will make people reluctant to reply in case they advise you to do something which is not understood and you have an accident.

slightly offended, only asked for help. i am a fully qualified plumbing and heating engineer of 20 years so i do have a basic knowledge of electrics and the dangers of electrics. so the factors that its dead are one of on/off switch, hi/lo rocker switch, pcb, or the motor itself?

I suggest you get a multimeter and start testing individual electrical components starting with the switch, the cable, the hi-lo switch, the ocb and check the motor. Maybe the carbons have worn down.

Why on earth would you be offended? You asked for help and didn't get it, then you commented that you'd asked for help and hadn't got it. So I wrote you a reply telling you how I had interpreted your message. That's 5 minutes of my life that I won't see back. Now, if you were grateful for the trouble I'd taken to explain why I for one hadn't replied with the answer, not a problem, but slightly offended, well, golly.

Shame you didn't explain your background because that would have given us an insight into your skill set. Never mind.
